Classified Documents Are A New Potential Trap For Any Politician Who Crosses The Deep State

The Trump years saw a massive acceleration in the trend of unelected bureaucrats exercising power over elected officials, including by weaponizing classified information.

Procedural complaints about classified documents are quickly turning into a catch-all trap that can depose duly elected officials, especially those tasked with oversight of U.S. intelligence agencies. Last August, an unprecedented classified document complaint provided a pretext for an FBI raid on former President Donald Trump’s home, in an eerie echo of the use of police and military resources against opposing politicians typical of banana republics.

That administrative power flex has now been turned into the unprecedented appointment of three special counsels, most recently against the deeply unpopular current Democrat Party figurehead, Joe Biden. This all reverses the American structure of elected officials maintaining oversight of unelected permanent administrators. Instead, we now have unelected bureaucrats performing selective “oversight” of elected officials.

Of course, that pattern erases Americans’ deepest political birthright: government of the people, by the people, and for the people. A government not ultimately controlled by elected representatives of the citizenry is not a republic, nor is it any kind of democracy. Without elections truly affecting government policies, the original United States is no more and its elections are a sham.

The subversion of elected representative government via weaponized intelligence has been expanding for some time. The Trump presidential years saw a massive acceleration in this pre-existing trend of unelected bureaucrats exercising increasing power over elected officials, including by weaponizing classified information, usually via highly selective leaks to leftist media.

Recall that Michael Flynn, a would-be reformer of U.S. intelligence, was neatly precluded from becoming Trump’s national security advisor via leaks of classified intel to the media that a (still) gullible Vice President Mike Pence bought hook, line, and sinker. Rather than the leaker being sought, caught, and punished, Flynn was. The selective and deceptive leaks were shanghaied into a Justice Department investigation that ended with Flynn narrowly escaping jail time and professional repercussions for his son so long as he promised to disappear from public view.

The same pattern occurred in multiple cycles with Spygate, the wholly manufactured projection of treasonous collusion with Russia from the Democratic Party onto Trump. Rep. Adam Schiff, who has been recently kicked off the House Intelligence Committee, repeatedly used his access to classified intelligence to fan the Spygate flames as well as the two impeachments of Trump. So did multiple other deep-state actors, including the Hillary Clinton campaign.

Notice there’s no probe into Schiff’s blatant and repeated misuse of the classified information he was privileged to receive on the House Intelligence Committee. But there could be if he stopped being such a useful Democrat.

This is how, as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer threatened Trump early in the latter’s term, intelligence agencies “have six ways from Sunday at getting back at you.” It is how the intelligence tail can — and now does — wag the congressional dog. This has been ongoing now for decades and is perpetually expanding its reach.

This allows the document-holders to function as a shadow government that essentially controls the elected government by picking what bits of information to release to achieve its own ends rather than the priorities of American voters. This selective deployment of intelligence has been even used to goad the United States into wars it doesn’t win that expand the military-industrial complex and distract U.S. officials while defenestrating U.S. national interests. It was used to lie to Trump about U.S. military activities and prevent him from exercising his due presidential authority over U.S. military affairs.

Those who presented unreliable, counterproductive, and false intelligence to presidents from George W. Bush to Barack Obama to Trump have not been punished, nor often even identified. Neither has the person who compromised the safety and collegiality of the U.S. Supreme Court by leaking the pro-life Dobbs decision last May.

Curiously, neither have there been any administrative-state leaks about the many connections between the Biden family and the Chinese Communist Party. This is not a tool to be applied equally, you see, or in service of the public good. It’s only yet another knife to pull out against those who cross the wrong people.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has been slammed for cheerfully dancing in the streets during a Lunar New Year parade, as violent crime surges and major retailers abandon the Windy City’s main drag.

Crime rates in the city have skyrocketed by 61% in the first three weeks of 2023, compared to the previous year, according to data from Chicago police. Authorities received 4,844 crime reports, up from 3,013 in the same period last year.

Two people were killed and 13 others, including a 3-year-old boy, were wounded this weekend in shootings across the city, ABC7 reported. Last weekend, seven people were killed and at least 23 others were wounded in a similar manner.

Meanwhile, 13 robberies were carried out over two hours on the city’s South and West sides Saturday night into early Sunday, NBC Chicago reported. In each incident, one or more people riding in a vehicle drove up to the victims.

Vermont Court Shocks: Non-Citizens Can Now Vote

The Vermont Supreme Court on Friday ruled that the city of Montpelier didn’t violate the state constitution by allowing foreign nationals to vote in municipal elections.

The lawsuit stemmed from a 2018 amendment to Montpelier’s charter, which permits “noncitizen voters” to “register to vote in Montpelier City elections.” The amendment was placed on that year’s general election ballot and approved by voters.

Vermont Gov. Phil Scott, a Republican, vetoed the General Assembly’s authorization of the changes in June 2021, only to have his veto overridden.

Since its adoption in 1777, Chapter II, Section 42 of the Vermont Constitution has been listing U.S. citizenship as a requirement one must meet to be entitled to “the privileges of a voter in this state.” Friday’s decision (pdf), however, said legal precedent and a close reading of the provision proved that local elections can have different voter qualifications from statewide elections. Read more…

Israel appears to have been behind drone strike on Iranian factory -US official

DUBAI/WASHINGTON, Jan 29 (Reuters) – Israel appears to have been behind an overnight drone attack on a military factory in Iran, a U.S. official said on Sunday.

Iran claimed to have intercepted drones that struck a military industry target near the central city of Isfahan, and said there were no casualties or serious damage.

The extent of damage could not be independently ascertained. Iranian state media released footage showing a flash in the sky and emergency vehicles at the scene.

Ilhan Omar is a national security threat.

Remember, it was this ISIS sympathizer who asked the judge for leniency in the punishments for American Islamic State terror recruits.

Can the new House GOP majority do anything? Even something as simple as booting Rep. Ilhan Omar off the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where she belongs as much as I belong on Al Qaeda’s councils, can’t proceed because some House Republicans are protecting her.

Why would protect Miss “Some People Did Something?”

Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) on Friday joined a group of House Republicans opposed to kicking Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) off the Foreign Affairs Committee, putting the high-profile effort dangerously close to failing.

Buck, a member of the right-wing Freedom Caucus, told NBC News’ Chuck Todd he is against Republicans removing Democrats like Omar from their committees.

Buck is the third House Republican to say they oppose removing Omar, along with Reps. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) and Victoria Spartz (R-Ind.).

“I think that we should not engage in this tit-for-tat,” Buck said.

Not engaging in tit-for-tat, better known as not fighting back, has worked brilliantly for Republicans thus far.

So what’s the plan to dissuade Democrats from doing this when they’re next in the majority? Scold them by emphasizing that Republicans will not lower themselves to engaging in any tit-for-tat. Do anything you like to us, but we will not respond with tit-for-tat.

After saying he’s opposed to Omar’s removal, Buck added: “I have a little bit less certainty about Congressman Schiff and Swalwell on Intelligence just because it’s a little bit different than a regular committee. But I’m going to think through that and make a decision.”

Deep thoughts are needed.

Rep. David Joyce (R-Ohio), the chair of the moderate Republican Governance Group, told Axios on Tuesday that Omar “should at least be given the opportunity to defend her prior statements” on the House floor.

“I haven’t taken a position on it because I haven’t seen a case against her, but I think she’s entitled to due process and she should be able to make her case on why she shouldn’t be [removed].”

“I don’t think tit for tat is necessary here,” said Rep. Andy Barr (R-Ky.). “We should be better than what the Democrats were.”

Dis someone send out a tit-for-tat memo?

The emerging consensus is that Republicans were elected to be “better” than Democrats by surrendering to them. It’s worked brilliantly for generations. Bound to work again now.

Trump Announces Education Agenda, Endorsing School Choice

President Trump, in his bid for a second term in 2024, is joining the crusade for school choice that is sweeping state legislatures .

Mr. Trump, announcing in a video tenets of his education agenda, called for “universal school choice.” He mostly focused on culture wars — the kinds of issues that have made Governor DeSantis a formidable challenger to the former president.

In the statement last week, Mr. Trump announced his intention to incentivize states to pass a “Parental Bill of Rights,” which would include universal school choice and curriculum transparency measures.

Mr. Trump says he will “implement massive funding preferences and favorable treatment” for locales that guarantee such measures — in addition to ending teacher tenure, cutting administrative personnel, and allowing parents to elect principals.

“If any principal is not getting the job done, the parents should be able to vote to fire them and select someone who will,” Mr. Trump said. “This will be the ultimate form of local control.”

Mr. Trump has not yet endorsed a specific policy program for states to enact universal school choice, but already several states have taken it upon themselves to pass universal school choice legislation in the form of education savings accounts.

ESAs, as they are known in education policy circles, allow states to disburse funds to families to spend on education-related costs: school tuition, textbooks, online courses, and more.

School choice advocates see them as more advantageous than traditional vouchers because they are more flexible and incentivize families to economize, as unspent funds roll over year to year. Students are usually eligible to receive the per-capita funding that public schools would spend.

In the past week, both Utah and Iowa passed legislation that will guarantee all students in these states ESA funding and effectively universal school choice. Arizona enacted the first universal ESA last year.

West Virginia has a similar program for students seeking to transfer out of traditional public schools. Texas, Idaho, Florida, and Oklahoma are looking at proposals for universal ESA programs this legislative term as well.

Mr. Trump’s announcement is a sign that the GOP is staking out education reform as a signature issue, but is moving cautiously with respect for state autonomy. Two of Mr. Trump’s most formidable potential opponents, Governors DeSantis and Youngkin, have made education their signature issue.

More than signaling support for school choice, the two governors have brought education to center-stage of the party platform by tackling the power of teachers unions — particularly during the Covid school shutdowns — and combating “woke” ideology in classrooms.

Conservatives have traditionally looked with disdain on the Department of Education and national K-12 standards. Yet increasingly they are relying on the department’s Office of Civil Rights for complaints about discrimination — for example, on the basis of race when critical race theory enters classrooms.

Mr. Trump in his address promised to cut federal funding for schools teaching “Critical Race Theory, gender ideology, or other inappropriate racial, sexual, or political content.”

He also referred to leftist ideology as “an established new religion” and promised to investigate “potential violations” of the First Amendment’s establishment and free exercise clauses. Mr. Trump also discussed creating teacher certification for those “who embrace patriotic values.”

Artificial Intelligence Could Make These Jobs Obsolete: ‘Not Crying Wolf’

With reports saying artificial intelligence system ChatGPT has passed exams and can produce reports, experts have warned that some jobs could become obsolete in the future.

Earlier this week, a research paper said ChatGPT was able to pass a graduate-level exam at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. Some professors have expressed alarm about students using the service to cheat on exams or their homework.

But if the system becomes capable, ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence could replace a number of white-collar jobs, some researchers have warned.

“AI is replacing the white-collar workers. I don’t think anyone can stop that,” Pengcheng Shi, an associate dean in the department of computing and information sciences at Rochester Institute of Technology, told the New York Post on Wednesday. “This is not crying wolf,” Shi added. “The wolf is at the door.”

Jobs in the financial sector, health care, publishing, and other industries are vulnerable, Shi said. But people, he added, will be able to learn how to harness AI technology.

Publishing

In the media field, AI technology has faced difficulties. Some outlets and journalists have noted that the system is poor with facts.

“Copy editing is certainly something it does an extremely good job at. Summarizing, making an article concise and things of that nature, it certainly does a really good job,” Chinmay Hegde, a computer science and electrical engineering associate professor at New York University, told the Post.

“You can ask it to provide an essay, to produce a story with citations, but more often than not, the citations are just made up,” Hegde continued. “That’s a known failure of ChatGPT and honestly we do not know how to fix that.”

Hegde added to the paper that some simple website designers and engineers are at risk of losing their jobs.

“I worry for such people. Now I can just ask ChatGPT to generate a website for me—any type of person whose routine job would be doing this for me is no longer needed,” he said.

Earlier in January, Princeton student Edward Tian told NPR that he created an app to see if something was written via AI, called GPTZero.

“Humans deserve to know when something is written by a human or written by a machine,” Tian told the outlet.

Wall Street

Some financial jobs will also become obsolete in the coming months and years, Shi warned.

“I definitely think [it will impact] the trading side, but even [at] an investment bank, people [are] hired out of college and spend two, three years to work like robots and do Excel modeling—you can get AI to do that,” he told the paper. “Much, much faster.”
Lawyers

ChatGPT made headlines recently after law professors at the University of Minnesota used the popular artificial intelligence chatbot to generate answers to exams in four courses last semester, then graded them blindly alongside actual students’ tests.

ChatGPT’s average C+ performance fell below the humans’ B+ average, the authors said. If applied across the curriculum, that would still be enough to earn the chatbot a law degree—though it would be placed on academic probation at Minnesota, ranked as the 21st best law school in the country by U.S. News & World Report.

“Alone, ChatGPT would be pretty mediocre law student,” said lead study author Jonathan Choi, who collaborated with professors Kristin Hickman, Amy Monahan, and Daniel Schwarcz.

Interns

Some intern jobs, including unpaid ones, may also get axed in the future.

A tech marketing agency, Codeword, said it decided to use so-called AI “interns” to assist its design and editorial teams to carry out “menial yet necessary tasks.”

“It’s an opportunity to streamline internal processes by eliminating necessary but mind-numbing and time-consuming tasks—or at least to pass them off onto emotionless interns who can’t get bored,” said Codeword senior editor Terrence Doyle, according to Axios.
Design

OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, created a separate tool, DALL-E, which can generate images from user prompts on command. Hegde said that the tool, along with Stable Diffusion and others, pose a threat to the graphic design industry.

“Before, you would ask a photographer or you would ask a graphic designer to make an image [for websites]. That’s something very, very plausibly automated by using technology similar to ChatGPT,” he told the Post.

This is so inherently unfair and more practically, unsustainable. Any country (or business or individual, for that matter) that punishes success while exalting and rewarding failure is destined to fail. Everyone in this country has a stake in it — everyone should pay. Everyone.

Top One Percent of U.S. Taxpayers Paid Nearly Half of All Income Taxes in 2020

New data from the IRS show that America’s income tax system remained highly progressive in 2020, with the top one percent of wage earners paying more than 42 percent of all federal income taxes for the year and the top 50 percent paying 97.7 percent of taxes received by the Treasury. The bottom 50 percent paid 2.3 percent of all income taxes.

The data, compiled by analysts by the Tax Foundation, found that Americans across the board in 2020 paid lower tax rates than they did before President Trump’s signature tax reforms in the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. More than 157 million tax returns were filed for the 2020 year reporting $12.5 trillion in adjusted gross income. The individual income taxes paid based on those returns totaled $1.7 trillion.

The income reported on 2020’s returns amounted to an increase of $650 million over 2019’s levels, and the taxes paid on that income rose by $129 billion, or eight percent, over the previous year. The average individual tax rate climbed slightly during the year, to 13.63 percent in 2020 compared to 13.29 percent in 2019.

The top one percent of earners, which numbered nearly 1.6 million filers, had adjusted gross incomes of more than $548,000 and paid an average tax rate of 26 percent. The tax rate was eight times the rate faced by the bottom half of taxpayers, who earned less than $42,000 and paid an average tax rate of 3.1 percent. The top one percent paid more than 42 percent of all income taxes paid to the federal government, an amount that is more than everyone in the bottom 90 percent combined.

The share of income taxes paid by that same one percent has risen dramatically over the past 20 years, according to the Tax Foundation. In 2001, the top one percent paid 33.2 percent of all income taxes and the burden on the bottom 50 percent fell to just over 2.3 percent from 4.9 percent 20 years earlier.

The income tax rate paid by those in the top five percent of all taxpayers during 2020, or those earning at least $220,000, averaged 22.4 percent. The average tax rate for those in the top 25 percent, or those who earned at least $85,853, was 17.1 percent.

The report noted that income increased among the top wage earners in 2020 over the previous year and decreased among lower-income earners. The share of adjusted gross income reported by the top one percent increased to 22.2 percent in 2020 from 20.1 percent in 2019; the share reported by the bottom 50 percent fell to 10.2 percent from 14.4 percent during the same period.

The report cautioned, however, that the results for the year were skewed by the pandemic-related relief payments and related unemployment benefits paid out during the year. “The income dip for the bottom half of taxpayers combined with the tax credit boost unavailable to higher-income households led to lower average tax rates at the bottom and a greater share of taxes borne by households at the top, compared to a typical year,” the report said.

Last year, the Congressional Budget Office reported that federal tax receipts have ballooned since the pandemic began in 2020 and Americans were on track to pay a record $5 trillion in taxes in fiscal 2022 — part of which can be attributed to inflation rates that are running the highest they have been since the early 1980s.

The total was the most taxpayers have paid as a percentage of the national gross domestic product since World War Two. Total taxes paid were up 23 percent, or more than $1 trillion, above what was paid during fiscal 2021. The last time federal tax receipts were at this level was in 2000, at the height of the dot-com bubble, when the percentage amounted to 20 percent.

What is Haley thinking? Haley is currently polling at 3% with Republican primary voters. Trump hasn’t even begun campaigning and is already polling at a phenomenal 48%. A report on Saturday showed that former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, mired around 3% in GOP Presidential Primary polls, looks ready to launch a quixotic bid next month for the Oval Office anyway.

Nikki Haley teases 2024 presidential run, but no final decision made

Minnesota Legislature Passes Bill to Legalize Abortions Up to Birth By 1 Vote

The Minnesota Senate today passed a bill to enshrine in Minnesota law a right to abortion without limits at any time during pregnancy. Senators approved the bill, H.F. 1, by just a one-vote margin, 34-33. Gov. Tim Walz is expected to sign the sweeping measure into law.

“Minnesotans don’t support elective third-trimester abortion. They just don’t. But that’s what this extreme bill entrenches in our state law: the right to abort any baby for any reason at any time up to birth,” said MCCL Co-Executive Director Cathy Blaeser. “Under this bill, even babies who are old enough to live outside the womb and to feel excruciating pain have no protection from lethal violence. The extremism of H.F. 1 puts Minnesota in the same category as just a handful of countries around the world, including North Korea and China.”

H.F. 1, authored by Sen. Jennifer McEwen (DFL-Duluth), would create a “fundamental right” to abortion and require that abortion be allowed for any reason even late in pregnancy, when unborn children are developed enough to feel pain and when the risks of abortion to women increase. The bill would also deny parents the right to know when their minor daughter is subjected to abortion.

“The lack of parental involvement allows the most heinous of criminals—human and sex traffickers—to hide behind the doors of the unlicensed, uninspected abortion facility,” said Blaeser. “These traffickers are happily watching this legislature advance extreme, unfettered abortion bills that enable them to continue to traffic their victims.”

Many amendments that would have made H.F. 1 less extreme were voted down or thwarted. The defeated amendments included ones to protect unborn children in the third trimester (with exceptions), to protect against the barbaric procedure known as partial-birth abortion, to provide the option of anesthesia when unborn children can feel pain, and to protect women’s health by requiring that third-trimester abortions take place in a hospital.

Additional abortion-expanding bills have also been introduced at the Capitol. One bill, H.F. 91/S.F. 70, would repeal numerous abortion-related laws, including a law protecting newborns who survive abortion.

Without borders, we have no country. But what we are suffering under is worse than that. We have a ruling class at war with its own people.

Criminals free despite extension of border rule, spaces made for migrant surge now empty

The Homeland Security Department released more than 1,100 illegal immigrants with criminal records from its detention facilities in December as it sought to make room for a border surge that never materialized.

Deportation officers said they were told to stop making arrests and clear space for the impact expected with a change in a pandemic border policy. The data, released this month by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, shows the extent of the moves.

ICE said it released 515 migrants with criminal convictions and 641 facing active criminal charges.

Officers said the releases were tied to the Title 42 pandemic border policy, which under a court order was supposed to disappear just before Christmas. The Homeland Security Department said already record levels of border chaos could triple, and they were clearing space out of ICE facilities to try to hold some of the most egregious border violators.

Ultimately, the Supreme Court ordered that Title 42 remain in place while it hears and considers arguments. Although illegal border crossings increased, the cataclysmic surge did not materialize.

That made the releases all the more aggravating, said R.J. Hauman, head of government relations at the Federation for American Immigration Reform.

“What they did in December in anticipation of the Title 42 ruling that never came down was yet another act of enforcement theater that jeopardizes public safety and the integrity of our system,” Mr. Hauman told The Washington Times.

Detaining illegal immigrants awaiting deportation is supposed to be the norm, particularly for those caught at the border.

Yet the sheer size of the border chaos and the Biden administration’s antipathy toward detention mean beds go unused while illegal immigrants are released into the country.

The criminals represented just a fraction of December releases, which totaled 20,279. That was up more than 80% from the averages in October and November.

ICE was using only a little more than 20,000 detention beds in early January despite being funded for an average of 34,000 beds on any given day.

As of this week, ICE was holding 23,030 people, nearly 11,000 below the daily capacity.

ICE didn’t respond to an inquiry for this article.

Tom Homan, who led ICE during the first part of the Trump administration, told The Times that all detention decisions are now made by a political appointee, not career staffers.

Mr. Homan said the appointee is trying to push toward release rather than detention.

“The sad thing is this: There are many empty beds sitting empty already paid,” he said.

Part of the problem appears to be about money siphoned to groups that are chummy with the Biden team, Mr. Horman said. That includes nongovernmental organizations that the government pays to help settle released immigrants in communities and for-profit companies that oversee the monitoring programs that track some of the migrants on release through phone check-ins.

Simon Dunn, Famed Australian Olympian and Rugby Player, Dies Suddenly at 35

Officials in Australia have confirmed that the nation’s first openly gay Olympic bobsledder, Simon Dunn, died suddenly at age 35.

Dunn’s body was reportedly found at his home in Sydney on Saturday. Police do not feel the death is suspicious and are going on the assumption that there is a medical reason for the passing, according to Yahoo Sports.

Ruby Rose Management confirmed the news with a statement saying, “About 10 am on Saturday, January 21, 2023, police were called to a unit on Crown Street, Surry Hills, after reports the body of a man had been found inside. The body is believed to be that of the 35-year-old occupant. Officers from Surry Hills Police Area Command have commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding his death, which is not being treated as suspicious.”

Dunn rose to fame in 2014 when he became the first openly gay member of the country’s Olympic bobsledding team. After retiring from the team in 2016, Dunn played for an all-gay rugby team, engaged in media appearances, and explored acting.

The Ukrainian government on Tuesday confirmed the resignation of multiple high ranking officials amid large-scale corruption allegations, in what’s being called the biggest mass resignation and graft scandal since the Russian invasion began.

Some dozen officials have quit their posts after a huge political shake-up over allegations and probes into cases ranging from bribery, to mismanagement of aid funds for purchasing food, to embezzlement, to driving expensive cars while common people suffer under wartime conditions.

A top presidential adviser and four deputy ministers – among these two defense officials, along with five regional governors were forced out of their posts. And among the regional governors to step down included officials overseeing regions which have seen intense fighting, including the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, where Russian forces have lately reported gains.

In this case regarding the food contracts, Shapovalov is accused of signing a deal with an unknown, shady firm. In his role as deputy defense minister, his is the most notable and visible resignation. Crucially he would have had no small part in overseeing the billions of dollars flowing from the pockets of US and European taxpayers as authorized defense aid.

He purchased military rations at inflated prices in what appears a scheme to line the pockets of contractors, and potentially involving kickbacks to himself.

This news came on the same day that it was announced that the United States and Germany had agreed to provide Ukraine with even more tanks for military use.

On Tuesday, multiple high-ranking members of Ukrainian government confirmed their resignations due to widespread allegations of graft and corruption. This has been labeled as the biggest mass resignation since Russia’s invasion began, with a total of twelve officials quitting their posts in light of accusations ranging from bribery and embezzlement, to mismanagement of aid funds dedicated to food provisions, as well as using expensive cars while other citizens continue to suffer in wartime conditions.

Notably among these resignations are a top presidential adviser, four deputy ministers, including two defense officials, as well as five regional governors; all overseeing various regions where intense fighting has recently occurred such as Zaporizhzhia and Kherson.

Particularly, attention is being drawn toward Deputy Defense Minister Vyacheslav Shapovalov who resigned following accusations that he had signed contracts for inflated prices for food provisions for soldiers. As this was his role within the ministry responsible for managing billions of dollars worth of authorized defense aid from both the US and European taxpayers’ pockets, his resignation is seen as especially significant. Additionally, Oleskiy Symonenko (Deputy Prosecutor General), Ivan Lukeryu (Deputy Minister for Development of Communities and Territories), Vyacheslav Negoda (Deputy Minister for Development of Communities and Territories) and Vitaliy Muzychenk (Deputy Minister for Social Policy) have also resigned their posts alongside regional governors from Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, Sumy and Kherson regions.

Iranian Protesters Sentenced To Death Endured Weeks Of “Gruesome Torture”

Amnesty International is urging the Iranian authorities to immediately quash the convictions and death sentences of three young protesters who have been subjected to “gruesome torture” and denied the right to a fair trial.

Arshia Takdastan, 18, Mehdi Mohammadifard, 19, and Javad Rouhi, 31, endured “floggings, electric shocks, being hung upside down and death threats at gunpoint,” the London-based human rights group said on January 27.

It also learned that Revolutionary Guards agents raped Mohammadifard and sexually tortured Rouhi “by placing ice on his testicles for two days.”

The men’s appeal is before the Supreme Court.

Newsom, not surprisingly, is an enthusiastic proponent of such deceptions; in September 2022, he signed Assembly 2098, prohibiting the dissemination of “misinformation” on the COVID hysteria. Specifically, according to a Thursday report in the San Francisco Gate, it established penalties for physicians who departed from “the contemporary scientific consensus” regarding COVID. Now that this “consensus” is being shown to have been based more on groupthink and political objectives rather than dispassionate and objective scientific analysis, Newsom’s bill appears to be particularly insidious. And it is.

Newsom himself, of course, claimed that his fascist little bill was perfect, as it “narrowly tailored to apply only to those egregious instances in which a licensee is acting with malicious intent or clearly deviating from the required standard of care while interacting directly with a patient under their care.” However, the Gate notes that “in an SFGATE op-ed last year, California physician Dr. Tracy Beth Høeg argued that AB 2098’s definition of ‘misinformation’ was too broad and that ‘the contemporary scientific consensus’ is always changing.” Indeed. If anything is obvious about COVID at this point, it’s that. And so “Høeg and other doctors sued the state, alleging that the law violates the First Amendment’s free speech protections and 14th Amendment’s due process protections.”

Obviously it does. And so on Wednesday, Judge William B. Shubb shot down Newsom’s gag rule, and had some strong words for it in his opinion: “Defendants argue that while the scientific consensus may sometimes be difficult to define, there is a clear scientific consensus on certain issues — for example, that apples contain sugar, that measles is caused by a virus, or that Down’s syndrome is caused by a chromosomal abnormality. However, AB 2098 does not apply the term ‘scientific consensus’ to such basic facts, but rather to COVID-19 — a disease that scientists have only been studying for a few years, and about which scientific conclusions have been hotly contested. COVID-19 is a quickly evolving area of science that in many aspects eludes consensus.”

All this gives the impression that Gavin Newsom would have been one of those insisting that Galileo obey the clear scientific consensus that the sun revolved around the earth, and would happily have burned him at the stake if he continued to insist otherwise. The contents of the orthodoxy and the heresy have changed, but otherwise the situation is the same: Gavin Newsom would have been a zealous Inquisitor.

Shubb wasn’t finished; he further embarrassed California’s Grand Inquisitor by pointing out that the definition of “misinformation” included in AB 2098 was “grammatically incoherent” and consequently thus “unconstitutionally vague.” The Gate adds that Shubb “had signaled he would grant the doctors’ request at a Monday hearing, in which he told California’s lawyers that their definition of ‘misinformation’ was ‘nonsense.’”

Newsom, like all totalitarians, is not going to give up. The Gate notes that Shubb’s ruling was “not a final judgment on the constitutionality of the law but rather a temporary halt against enforcement while litigation continues. California can appeal to have the injunction lifted,” and you can be sure that it will. Although little noted among patriots, the war against the freedom of speech is the Left’s primary focus at this point. If Leftists can destroy it, under the guise of protecting the public against such trumped-up bogeymen as “hate speech” and “misinformation,” they will have a free hand to implement the rest of their sinister agenda. That’s why this small victory against AB 2098 should be celebrated, and its positive example studied and emulated.

A four-star Air Force general has told his officers to prepare for war with China within two years — instructing them to drill service members “with the full understanding that unrepentant lethality matters most.”

“I hope I am wrong,” Mike Minihan, head of the 50,000-member Air Mobility Command, wrote in the chilling Friday memo, NBC News reported. “My gut tells me we will fight in 2025.”

The Department of Defense sought to downplay the memo. “These comments are not representative of the department’s view on China,” a spokesperson said.

Facebook (now known as Meta) has removed Ukraine’s Azov Regiment — members of which regularly display Nazi symbols and signs on their uniforms — from its list of dangerous individuals and organizations. With this change, Mark Zuckerberg is welcoming members of the Azov Regiment who were once blacklisted to utilize his massive platform.

The Washington Post reports that as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues, Facebook has modified its approach to content moderation. The neo-Nazi Ukrainian military group Azov Regiment was recently removed from the social media behemoth’s list of potentially harmful people and groups. With this modification, members of the Azov Regiment will be able to sign up for Facebook and Instagram accounts and post content without worrying about it being taken down unless it violates the platforms’ content policies. Other users will be able to openly laud and support the group’s work due to the change.

This policy change comes after months of criticism of how the social media juggernaut is handling the conflict, with many questioning where it draws the line between promoting free speech about the conflict and containing rhetoric that could have violent or dangerous offline repercussions. The company has been criticized by its Oversight Board, an independent group of primarily leftist activists, academics, and experts who oversee Facebook’s content moderation decisions, for going too far in removing content that challenges authoritarian governments or leaders.

Historically, there has been controversy surrounding the Azov Regiment. It is one of Ukraine’s most skilled military units and has engaged in combat with Russian forces in strategic locations like the besieged city of Mariupol and close to Kiev. However, there were worries that the group was drawing extremists because of its ties to its neo-Nazi ideology. The Azov forces were partially referred to when Russian President Vladimir Putin described his invasion of Ukraine as an effort to “de-Nazify” the nation.

According to Facebook, the neo-Nazi Azov Movement and the Azov Regiment are no longer affiliated. It mentions that the unit is formally under the command and control of the Ukrainian government. According to Facebook, there are still “elements of the Azov Movement, including the National Corp., and its founder Andriy Biletsky” on its list of potentially harmful people and groups. “Hate speech, hate symbols, calls for violence, and any other content which violates our Community Standards are still banned, and we will remove this content if we find it,” the company said.
