‘Wasn’t it the Russians?’ Dem Party leaders assign blame for Hillary losing Iowa to Trump in 2016

Fri, 05/10/2019 - 19:14

Another presidential election season is bringing with it another batch of Democrats vying for the party’s nomination. However, Dem party leaders are hoping the primary process isn’t a knock down, drag out fight, which is what they’re blaming for Clinton losing Iowa to Trump in 2016:

Party leaders say the Clinton-Sanders divisions ran so deep, it depressed the Democratic general election turnout in Iowa, contributing to Trump’s 10-point romp https://t.co/coWQf1dRFK

— POLITICO (@politico) May 10, 2019

Feel the Bern:

Party leaders say the Clinton-Sanders divisions ran so deep, it depressed the Democratic general election turnout in Iowa, contributing to Trump’s 10-point romp after Barack Obama twice carried the state.

“To get the reputation that you’re helping serve this up to Trump again — it’s a death wish,” Bagniewski said.

So, no voter suppression or the other thing that’s been in the news so much lately?

Wait, wasn't it the Russians? https://t.co/WlYShW4oOx

— JWF (@JammieWF) May 10, 2019

Right?

Hillary Clinton also contributed to Trump’s “10-point romp” in Iowa — not to mention Wisconsin and elsewhere.

Maybe they just lacked a candidate they could all support? Obama had no problem getting out the vote

— swampcat (@fishinhogs) May 10, 2019

No, I think it was more likely the fact that the DNC rigged the Primaries, disenfranchising the rank-and-file of their Party. Add to that the obvious criminalities and abuses of Clinton, and Dems rejected her like everyone else.

— Michael Vass (@MVConsult) May 10, 2019

More excuses.

— Big B (@blaubaugh) May 10, 2019

The well hasn’t even come close to running dry yet.

‘NEW LOW in deceitful politics’: Dan Crenshaw BLISTERS House Dems for lying about pre-existing conditions in BRUTAL thread

Fri, 05/10/2019 - 15:33

Rep. Dan Crenshaw wrote a fairly vicious thread about House Democrats playing the pre-existing condition card in an effort to deliberately mislead voters. We realize Dan is a junior rep and is not quite so jaded and cynical as the rest of us who have been watching these a-holes lie for YEARS about health care.

You can tell Dan was pissed when he wrote this.

And who could blame him?

We reached a new low in deceitful politics today.

The lies about protection for pre-existing conditions continue.

This was one of the most shameful and dishonest bills passed in the House so far.#HR986

— Dan Crenshaw (@DanCrenshawTX) May 9, 2019

Dems … lying about health care?! WE’RE SHOCKED!

Bill is called “Protection for Pre-existing Conditions Act” but it has NOTHING to do with pre-existing conditions.

It is a bill that limits states’ ability to innovate with more cost-effective solutions.

Dems labeled it that way to mislead voters.

Shameful.

— Dan Crenshaw (@DanCrenshawTX) May 9, 2019

Yup. They love pretending the bill they’re working on does something positive when it’s usually only positive for them and or the government. Then when Republicans vote against it they can say, ‘HEY LOOK, REPUBLICANS HATE YOU AND WANT YOU TO GO WITHOUT HEALTH CARE.’

As we said, we’ve been watching these shills do this for years.

States that have successfully innovated under current law include Alaska, Maryland, Oregon, Maine, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and New Jersey.

They have saved money on premiums AND protected pre-existing conditions.

Dems are against that, AND lying about it.

— Dan Crenshaw (@DanCrenshawTX) May 9, 2019

Dems want more government at the federal level so of course, they’d be against states figuring these things out for themselves. Let’s not forget what’s really the most important to Democrats, and that’s making Republicans look bad, especially the president. At the end of the day, all they really want is power.

And if that means they lie to their base so be it.

It’s what Democrats do best, lie

— Carolyn L Daniels (@witchylou02) May 10, 2019

True story.

Oh, good, Chris Hayes chimed in.

Do you support DOJ’s position in the the current lawsuit to scrap the ACA?

— Chris Hayes (@chrislhayes) May 10, 2019

*sigh*

get your advocating journalism swag on there Hayes, real professional

— Gianbattista (@gbtiepolo1) May 10, 2019

You’re deflecting Chris

— Eduardo Neret (@eduneret) May 10, 2019

So what else is new?

From what we can tell, Dan did not respond.

James Comey dismisses allegations of political bias in 2016, says Trump’s a ‘chronic liar’ who ‘eats your soul’

Fri, 05/10/2019 - 15:19

As we told you last night, James Comey addressed the anti-Trump texts between FBI employees Peter Strzok and Lisa Page by saying “it made us all look bad,” but the former FBI director explained that political bias on the job wasn’t tolerated and was isolated to those instances. Comey also made his personal opinion about Trump quite clear yet again:

James Comey explains why he believes President Trump "eats your soul in small bites" #ComeyTownHall https://t.co/lAKzYpgZT0 pic.twitter.com/N1u1A8LLpa

— CNN Politics (@CNNPolitics) May 10, 2019

"You cannot have a President who's a chronic liar," says fmr. FBI Dir. James Comey.

The President can't be "someone who lies constantly," he says. "I thought Republicans agreed with that. It's one of the reasons I'm no longer a Republican." #ComeyTownHall https://t.co/VTSLGm1Jq6 pic.twitter.com/ak5rfDmJZX

Did Comey ever bring his opinions to work with him? Comey’s tone could easily be confused for a Strzok/Page text.

Experts.

Right.

So you know this was a hot mess of stupid.

We asked experts if AOC will end up president. https://t.co/e332yeGqq4

— VICE (@VICE) May 10, 2019

Because AOC is a ‘young political star.’

Whoa boy.

From Vice (yeah, we know):

While it is entirely possible that Ocasio-Cortez will find a way of effectively navigating those political challenges and retaining her digital fame. But it is worth remembering that she is a political neophyte who openly acknowledges how jarring her rise to prominence has been and how tiring it is to play the great hope or villain while just trying to do her job as a legislator. And all it takes is one slip to upset that balancing act and take a major career turn.

As historian Gil Troy noted, proof of such political staying power, “an agility and a rootedness,” only emerges with time. So it is entirely possible that Ocasio-Cortez “may yet rise, in time, to spectacular heights,” as Gurri put it, “or plunge into the abyss and be forgotten” within months or years. “No one can say at this point.”

So these experts don’t know.

Shocker.

He got the memo: CNN’s Don Lemon slams Trump as ‘our con man in chief’ over business losses

Thu, 05/09/2019 - 20:38

On Tuesday night The New York Times published the figures it had obtained from President Trump’s Form 1040s from 1985 to 1994 and found that he’d lost a billion dollars over the course of a decade.

That led to a hot take from the Times about how Trump “was making himself the media’s go-to symbol” for wealth, though as we said Wednesday, we think the media had a part in that as well.

Steve Robinson laid the smackdown on the Times, however, by reminding them of their sale of The Boston Globe for $70 million, a 93 percent loss from its record-high price of $1.1 billion.

Now CNN’s Don Lemon is working the “Trump was a really lousy businessman” angle — they’ve got 24 hours a day to fill and no Russian collusion to report on anymore and not even a Michael Avenatii campaign to promote, so they had to find something.

NYT: Trump's tax records shows Trump lost $1.17B in a decade

CNN's @DonLemon: "It turns out Donald Trump is our con man in chief … The man who ran for president on his reputation as a billionaire business genius was a really lousy businessman" https://t.co/LWmymjzkYB pic.twitter.com/OQl9irBHpt

— CNN Tonight (@CNNTonight) May 8, 2019

First, we’re not sure what’s immoral or illegal about losing money, especially in real estate, when the numbers are routinely enormous, and second, we’re not sure CNN’s in any position to talk either.

that's nothing compared to> https://t.co/AySpGbOhHE

— 1 fast patriot (@FastPatriot) May 8, 2019

Remember the time CNN founder Ted Turner lost $8 billion not over a decade but on a single bad deal: the merger of America Online and Time Warner.

The best part of the Guardian’s story: “CNN has not of late been a star in the AOL Time Warner portfolio and is losing viewers to Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News.” Ha! That was from 2003 … good to see CNN’s turned things around like Trump managed to do and come out on top.

And this makes CNN a "really, really, really lousy…" news network…https://t.co/6geAf1CALQ

— Al Thompson (@AlThomp) May 8, 2019

Here's the con…. @CNNTonight "talent" doesn't disclose that billionaire business genius came back from billion dollar losses and actually wrote a book about that journey, making the @CNNTonight talent the actual con artist. https://t.co/YryQbtvHJ2

— BayAreaFrau (@bayareahausfrau) May 9, 2019

Again, we’re talking about a 10-year period during the real estate crash — which Trump wrote about in his books.

Turns out?? If anyone bothered to ask, you would have known this before.

— The Dealer (@nj_fisherman) May 8, 2019

Ummmmm, this isn't news. It was in 2 of his books. His motto was "survive till 95". Also, you have to be pretty successful in order to lose a billion dollars and still not go broke. Bezos has lost that amount on more than one occasion.

— James Wilkinson (@ACTav_James) May 8, 2019

During remarks this morning, President Trump said that former Secretary of State John Kerry should be held legally accountable for engaging in shadow diplomacy with the Iranian regime:

John Kerry, through a spokesman, took offense to Trump’s comments:

Nancy Pelosi agrees that US is in ‘constitutional crisis’ but says Trump is currently ‘almost self-impeaching’

Thu, 05/09/2019 - 15:32

As we told you yesterday, Democrat Rep. Jerrold Nadler came out after the Judiciary Committee voted to hold Attorney General Bill Barr in contempt for not releasing an unredacted Mueller report and told reporters that the U.S. is in a “constitutional crisis” (a talking point the media quickly picked up and ran with).

This morning, Nancy Pelosi said she agreed with Nadler:

Reporter: Do you agree with Chairman Nadler that America is currently in a constitutional crisis?

Speaker Pelosi: "Yes, I do agree with Chairman Nadler…" pic.twitter.com/HJWGQScM2X

— NBC Politics (@NBCPolitics) May 9, 2019

So does that mean the House Speaker will move to impeach? Here’s how Pelosi side-stepped that for now:

Pelosi:
The President is almost self-impeaching because he is showing more obstruction

— Chad Pergram (@ChadPergram) May 9, 2019

Speaker Nancy Pelosi tells @marykbruce impeachment should be "very constitution-based," but Trump is "almost self-impeaching because he is every day demonstrating more obstruction of justice and disrespect for Congress' legitimate role to subpoena" https://t.co/lqUl955Hua pic.twitter.com/CYFDXwMvlx

A Trump supporter on Fox News eating 10 eggs at a Wisconsin diner is the latest triggering event for libs

Thu, 05/09/2019 - 13:12

Fox News went to the Johnny V’s Classic Diner is Wisconsin ahead of its hosting of a town hall with Amy Klobuchar and this Trump supporter eating 10 eggs, for some reason, became the target of liberal ire. “Holy crap!’ Vox’s Aaron Rupar exclaimed:

Holy crap! Check out how many eggs this Trump fan had on his plate during an interview with Fox & Friends at a Milwaukee diner pic.twitter.com/X8OFusIv6z

— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) May 8, 2019

Bobby Lewis of Media Matters was particularly triggered by this man’s thoughts on socialism:

"it's totally ridiculous. they're promising people everything; free this, free that, free this, free that. and in actuality if you sit down and look at it, that's buying votes." pic.twitter.com/j7TZMlJmqp

— Bobby Lewis (@revrrlewis) May 8, 2019

Some accused Fox News of staging the delicious looking breakfast:

here we go: the massive order of eggs spotted in fox and friends' "breakfast with friends" segment appears multiple times in different shots, in front of different diners, as it was part of a prop plate cooked by diner staff before taping https://t.co/vvlY7xgsyu

— Jack Crosbie (@jscros) May 8, 2019

Here it is again with different customers:

fox nation's most compelling television to-date has been an extra sighting of the ten egg breakfast from this morning pic.twitter.com/iKs20GY9XY

— Bobby Lewis (@revrrlewis) May 8, 2019

But upon investigation, they discovered this wasn’t staged at all but a 5lb breakfast challenge, and now we totally want to try it, too:

Finally, we have an answer. It’s not on the regular menu but this diner offers a 5lb food challenge.

I added up the calories and this meal is 2,421… assuming he doesn’t add any syrup and butter to those 8 pancakes.

(The recommended caloric intake is 2,500 per day for a man.) pic.twitter.com/uk2jOCoy6m

— Arlen Parsa (@arlenparsa) May 8, 2019

And this is still a commentary on socialism for some reason:

So Fox News just interviewed this guy in a diner complaining about Democrats promising people "free this, free that" while he is in the midst of eating a "5LB breakfast challenge" that is… wait for it… free if you finish within 1 hour. pic.twitter.com/z3rf73JQrh

In footage of the Tuesday game at Wrigley Field on NBC Sports Chicago, a fan could be seen making an alleged “white power” symbol behind reporter Doug Glanville, who is black.

O.M.G.

Stupid on this level should absolutely be painful.

So the Cubs banned a fan for life for playing the circle/shoulder punch game, but promoted Addison Russell, ON THE SAME DAY, to the Cubs roster even though he beat his wife. Sports, in 2019.

— Clay Travis (@ClayTravis) May 9, 2019

Did we mention this is damn dumb?

https://t.co/MbZu92rsII guess Malcolm in the Middle was racist also.

— Jason Taylor (@J_Taylor_not_99) May 9, 2019

Cubbies should revoke the ban IMMEDIATELY, apologize to this fan and hope to all that’s HOLY he doesn’t decide to file some sort of defamation suit.

Unreal.

Wait, you know what? This isn’t unreal. THIS IS REAL, and a sad, sad reflection of the poison ‘progressives’ are spreading throughout this country with their stupid identity politics.

RAR.

Shocker! Jim Acosta picks up Dems’ ‘constitutional crisis’ talking points and RUNS with them (video)

Wed, 05/08/2019 - 22:29

Speaking to reporters today after the House Judiciary Committee voted in favor of a contempt of Congress citation against Attorney General Bill Barr, Rep. Jerrold Nadler said it’s a “constitutional crisis” that may or may not involve the need for impeachment proceedings:

Rep. Nadler declares America in a ‘constitutional crisis’ (but impeachment ‘may not be the best answer’) https://t.co/U5WrcYnzJo

— Twitchy Team (@TwitchyTeam) May 8, 2019

Most media outlets are reporting what Nadler said about a “constitutional crisis,” but CNN’s chief Resistance journo Jim Acosta, on location at Trump’s upcoming rally in Panama City, Florida tonight, has adopted Nadler’s talking points in his reporting:

Behold Fake News Jim @Acosta parroting Jerry Nadler's use of the term "constitutional crisis," screeching that, for President Trump: "It looks like the Art of the Deal has turned into the Art of the Conceal." pic.twitter.com/emCd9jmx0a

‘Hard-hitting journalism right there’! Becket Adams breaks down CBS News anchor’s softball game with James Comey

Wed, 05/08/2019 - 20:26

As Twitchy told you earlier today, former FBI Director James Comey was on “CBS This Morning” where he criticized President Trump for citing a NY Times report saying the FBI spied on the Trump campaign ahead of the 2016 election. Comey claimed that the FBI doesn’t “spy” but rather “investigates.” Did those interviewing him challenge what Comey had to say? Becket Adams broke down what Comey was asked by the new anchor of the CBS Evening News, Norah O’Donnell:

actual question from CBS’ new nightly anchor: FBI agents are "on the front lines every day" to "keep this country safe. And when the [AG] undermines the integrity of those agents by suggesting they’re involved in spying against a president – what does that do to the reputation?” pic.twitter.com/6HW7aU4oca

— T. Becket Adams (@BecketAdams) May 8, 2019

That sounds more like a question asked by a fan rather than a journalist.

some hard-hitting journalism right there. nothing says "speak truth to power" quite like teeing up the former FBI chief with a gentle, slow-moving softball question.

— T. Becket Adams (@BecketAdams) May 8, 2019

Comey must have appreciated that.

“but you are so brave and good. does it upset you when people say you are not brave and good?"

— T. Becket Adams (@BecketAdams) May 8, 2019

I *like* the FBI. I like law enforcement in general (though reform is clearly needed). But there’s a difference between respect & ass-kissing. Journos are supposed to hold powerful institutions & their leaders accountable, not shower them w/ adulation like they’re Mother Teresa.

— T. Becket Adams (@BecketAdams) May 8, 2019

Mainstream “journalism” is getting more embarrassing by the day in the Trump era.

Damn – sounds like Comey wrote the question.

‘Are you her publicist?’ Meghan McCain wipes the floor with shameless Ilhan Omar apologist Seth Meyers [video]

Wed, 05/08/2019 - 19:41

God bless Meghan McCain. Seriously.

On last night’s episode of “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” Seth Meyers steered his conversation with McCain to McCain’s vocal criticism of Ilhan Omar’s anti-Semitism and attempted to paint Omar as a victim:

WATCH: @MeghanMcCain goes after Seth Meyers over his defense of Rep. Ilhan Omar's repeated remarks about Israel

"Are you her publicist?" pic.twitter.com/Q6N3O6FGr7

— Jon Levine (@LevineJonathan) May 8, 2019

Here’s the full conversation (starts around the 6:40 mark):

You can almost see Seth’s muscles twitching as he strains to make excuses for Omar’s abhorrent words and behavior.

Late night hosts are deeply invested in protecting Congress’s most prominent antisemite, and their normalization of Jew-hatred in this climate should be noted and not forgotten https://t.co/ujgFa7R5fg

— Seth Mandel (@SethAMandel) May 8, 2019

Meanwhile, you also have late-night schmucks like @sethmeyers attacking people like @MeghanMcCain for actually caring about and calling out antiSemitism from members of Congress.

— (((AG))) (@AG_Conservative) May 8, 2019

Also, @sethmeyers, @IlhanMN did *not* apologize unequivocally. She equivocated *in her “apology” tweet*, then spent a week RTing tweets that said she did nothing wrong and laughing about it in public. And then she said other anti-Semitic stuff and didn’t apologize at all. https://t.co/XO7VBxbuEd

— Jonathan Greenberg (@JGreenbergSez) May 8, 2019

Wondering when @sethmeyers is going to care about the "death threats" and mean tweets towards… Oh, I dunno — @benshapiro, @bethanyshondark, @MeghanMcCain and other conservatives. https://t.co/z7uG00oMtO

Also anyone not of a deeply diseased mind should be grateful that ppl like @MeghanMcCain continue to defend our community despite constantly being attacked for it. We’re lucky to have allies. I’m sorry we don’t always do an appropriate job of showing it.

‘Dude, you’re in the media’! CNN’s Andrew Kaczynski dissecting the media’s ‘big failure’ with regard to Trump is just too damn much

Wed, 05/08/2019 - 19:05

As Twitchy told you last night, the New York Times dropped a yuge bombshell about ten years’ worth of Donald Trump’s tax return figures. Sorry, did we say “bombshell”? We meant dud. Apparently the New York Times was under the impression that we were literally born yesterday and had no idea that Donald Trump is actually a pretty craptacular businessman and has been for decades.

Well anyway, that New York Times scoop has really given CNN’s Andrew Kaczynski some things to think about with regard to the media’s relationship with Donald Trump. And he decided to share his thoughts with all of us.

Thread –> https://t.co/QZsOjZ6EE9

— Brian Stelter (@brianstelter) May 8, 2019

Thread https://t.co/POfhMW48lP

— Jake Tapper (@jaketapper) May 8, 2019

Well, if Kaczynski’s CNN colleagues think we need to read it, then by all means. Let’s:

I've been thinking about with the NYT story is how false perceptions of Donald Trump's wealth/business acumen represent a big failure on the part of the media going back decades.

Here's one example from 1994 when Mar-a-Lago was opening. AP reports the royals are joining… pic.twitter.com/iTqBnqLVYV

— andrew kaczynski (@KFILE) May 8, 2019

The report cites the membership director and says Trump handled the paperwork personally. https://t.co/TXkZbM6n84 pic.twitter.com/GsiLFaHcuI

— andrew kaczynski (@KFILE) May 8, 2019

Even the New York Times reported it uncritically, and quoted Trump saying he personally handled the applications.https://t.co/FfshnHSlKK pic.twitter.com/2iAsn5zvCw

— andrew kaczynski (@KFILE) May 8, 2019

The same thing happened with a bunch of other celebrities and notable figures too. So what happened? Buckingham Palace had to release a statement calling it false. Trump released a statement claiming he didn't say they were signed up, just given memberships. pic.twitter.com/TVWDzkfMF8

— andrew kaczynski (@KFILE) May 8, 2019

The New York Times was forced to run a correction a month after the story ran.

But it shows how the glitzy claims Trump would make about his wealth or businesses were accepted uncritically for decades by a media desperate to fill coverage space. pic.twitter.com/tTl2jFN7Mq

— andrew kaczynski (@KFILE) May 8, 2019

I wrote about this at BuzzFeed in 2016 and how later reports cited Trump as the source of the anonymous rumor. And I could provide a dozen examples like it from the 1980s-2000s.https://t.co/RwT18eMjDr

— andrew kaczynski (@KFILE) May 8, 2019

Here's another example I wrote about. How Trump falsely claimed to have the highest speaking fee ever. The media just ran with his claims – but he was forced to reveal in a deposition in his lawsuit with @TimOBrien that it wasn't true. https://t.co/La43TTsWzF pic.twitter.com/uTZm4Emzdq

— andrew kaczynski (@KFILE) May 8, 2019

It was something we just continually found in 2016, the more and more we dug into Trump's claims, the more and more we found them to be untrue. Another example was his claims of donating his Apprentice salary to charity – two entirely different claims…https://t.co/YcZ4AZcvgk pic.twitter.com/htvsfXBy3l

— andrew kaczynski (@KFILE) May 8, 2019

Another was a claim about donating millions to a cerebral palsy charity, including donating a building. It was reported in lots of placed, among them the New York Times at the time – but records we found, and later reports, showed it came from Fred Trump
https://t.co/4oN2LmyEbn

— andrew kaczynski (@KFILE) May 8, 2019

So basically, the media’s been propping Trump up for years by indulging his dishonesty. Wow! Andrew’s as adept at reporting brand-new information as the New York Times!

CNN is going to win a pulitzer for telling us what most of us have known for decades. pic.twitter.com/so0qdPMLGf

— BT (@back_ttys) May 8, 2019

They’re so proud of themselves. And you know what? They should be. Because nobody covered themselves in glory over Trump quite like CNN.

Meanwhile, throughout 2015 & into 2016, media outlets, including CNN, showed Trump rallies nearly at length and invited him to appear on shows via telephone, giving him carte blanche to say whatever the hell he wanted. Only dried up in May '16 when he unofficially won nomination https://t.co/J4tXJB53z6

— Jay Caruso (@JayCaruso) May 8, 2019

If Stelter and KFile think media failed in reporting on Trump for decades, perhaps they can walk upstairs and knock on the door of the guy who signs their checks. https://t.co/GNkZyhtUq2

— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) May 8, 2019

Wait until @KFILE finds out who got him his Apprentice deal at NBC… He's going to be very surprised!

— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) May 8, 2019

"It was Zucker who, as president of NBC Entertainment, broadcast 'The Apprentice' […] That show, more than anything, reversed Trump’s fortunes, recasting a local tabloid villain as the people’s prime-time billionaire." https://t.co/IMTrehxYdt

— Ryan (@alwaysonoffense) May 8, 2019

Jeff Zucker and CNN are complicit in this fiasco

— Deborah V (@socalscootergal) May 8, 2019

It's a real mystery how we got here. https://t.co/RJvNwFKKVA

— BT (@back_ttys) May 8, 2019

It cracks me up that KFILE thinks he's breaking new ground here.

— BT (@back_ttys) May 8, 2019

Is there anyone at CNN with even an iota of self-awareness?

Dude, you’re in the media.

— Sir Gumbeaux (@SirGumbeaux) May 8, 2019

Now the media is doing the opposite, publishing critical pieces without checking.

— Andrew M. (@zuldiras) May 8, 2019

It’s always fun when the media finally begins to grasp what most of us have known for decades; that is that our media is really, really bad at its basic duties.

Piers Morgan thinks Archie Harrison, the Royal Baby name, is a ‘striking blow for diversity & feminism’

Wed, 05/08/2019 - 18:57

Well, the Royal Baby finally has a name. World, meet Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor:

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh were introduced to the newborn son of The Duke & Duchess of Sussex at Windsor Castle. Ms Doria Ragland was also present. The Duke & Duchess of Sussex are delighted to announce that they have named their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. pic.twitter.com/PaHVhPlUl5

— The Royal Family (@RoyalFamily) May 8, 2019

Archie?

Ummmm…they named the Royal Baby…ARCHIE?

What in the hell….?

— Emily Zanotti (@emzanotti) May 8, 2019

Yeah, we thought this, too:

Ladies and Gentleman, I present to you the latest addition to the British Royal Family pic.twitter.com/1jlQ4WbDWL

— Doug Mataconis (@dmataconis) May 8, 2019

But there is a long American tradition of red-headed Archies, so maybe this was the inspiration?

Let's all just respect the power move of a ginger prince naming his son Archie. pic.twitter.com/K3V3n5M7Me

— Heidi N. Moore (@moorehn) May 8, 2019

The “Harrison” comes from “son of Harry” and “Mountbatten” is Prince Philip’s old last name before he married the Queen:

The baby's name would be Archie Harrison Windsor if Prince Philip hadn't thrown a tantrum about shoehorning the Mountbatten name into the monarchy for the greater glory of his relatives, stay strong with that problematic hyphen, little guy.

— Heidi N. Moore (@moorehn) May 8, 2019

We were told this name would have some American connection:

This is the most Britishy British name I've ever heard. We were promised an American connection! https://t.co/xkcBxIcPpb

— Karol Markowicz (@karol) May 8, 2019

And, surprisingly, this fits:

Find your royal baby name by combining your favourite US comic strip character, your favourite Star Wars actor, your favourite cake, and the location of your grandmother's favourite castle. https://t.co/EJL1w7XY3x

— Robert Hutton (@RobDotHutton) May 8, 2019

Piers Morgan is already trolling the name (he says he’s serious), wondering why if Archie, which is actually a popular name right now in Britain couple with Harrison is “a striking blow for diversity & feminism”:

So the royal couple, in a striking blow for diversity & feminism, have given their son one of the most popular white middle-class first names, Archie, and a second name, Harrison, that was chosen because it stands for 'Harry's son' (I'm serious..). Hilarious. pic.twitter.com/kV0ezcwNLc
