Neera Tanden regrets 2000 election didn’t turn out differently so the world wouldn’t be in such peril

Wed, 01/02/2019 - 21:30

With Democrats about to take control of the House of Representatives, the alarm is now sounding even louder about doing something about climate change. With the renewed push to force a new “green” agenda into existence comes the resurgence of Al Gore, who continues to make the media rounds:

“We have rallied, as human beings, to do what’s right. But the chips are down now, and we have to get serious about confronting this global emergency.”

Former VP @algore underlines the threat of climate change: https://t.co/5DgxG331he pic.twitter.com/BY6doRukUZ

— The Daily Show (@TheDailyShow) January 1, 2019

Neera Tanden, president of the Center for American Progress, wishes Gore had been elected in 2000 so things would be different, or something:

We could have had this man as President. Imagine if we'd acted on the climate crisis 18 years ago. https://t.co/lzsdRzJu8r

— Neera Tanden (@neeratanden) January 1, 2019

Considering the dates on some of Gore’s doomsday predictions have expired, this entire discussion should be moot:

If we'd acted on it 18 years ago, maybe the seas wouldn't have risen in 2008 and engulfed our coastal cities as predicted.

I'm tweeting from under water, BTW. Because drowned. https://t.co/LUzZ0ems2t

— Eric Spencer (@JustEric) January 2, 2019

LOL!

Acted how exactly?
What 18 years ago could we have done to impact whatever it is you are convinced is happening? https://t.co/Sawvg0nQaQ

— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) January 2, 2019

Millions of dollars in sham Carbon Credits cash wouldn’t have flowed into his pockets? https://t.co/C9iKvb0SJw

Nobody should weep for Al Gore, because he’s doing just fine for himself.

‘Cue leftist hysteria’: Recommendation from commission on Parkland shooting will NOT sit well with pro-gun control crowd

Wed, 01/02/2019 - 20:39

A commission investigating the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida last year has released a 446-page report, which includes this recommendation:

BREAKING: Commission investigating Parkland school shooting recommends arming teachers in Florida – WPTV

— Breaking911 (@Breaking911) January 2, 2019

From WPTV:

The commission investigating the Florida high school massacre has turned in its recommendation that teachers who volunteer and undergo training be allowed to carry guns.

The 15-member Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission on Wednesday unanimously approved the 446-page report containing that proposal and other recommendations.

It’s now in the hands of Gov. Rick Scott, Governor-elect Ron DeSantis and the Legislature.

There are no doubt some who will have a big problem with that particular recommendation.

Cue leftist hysteria. https://t.co/dODQnBwzj1

Wed, 01/02/2019 - 20:02

Mitt Romney’s anti-Trump op-ed in the Washington Post earned the soon-to-be Republican senator some comparisons to a certain outgoing senator, who has been good enough to help lend some validation to those comparisons:

‘How can you win the country?’ ABC reporter shouted down after mentioning ‘really worrisome’ Elizabeth Warren stat

Wed, 01/02/2019 - 18:50

ABC reporter Sarah Frostenson put out a stat from ABC News showing that Elizabeth Warren’s actual and expected result in her own Senate election was 15 points to the negative.

Warren is the first big name for 2020, but I find her underperformance as an incumbent in 2018 really worrisome. If you're losing support among your own constituency how can you win the country? https://t.co/SkvUVX7Iel pic.twitter.com/Dux7ZfeBKU

— Sarah E. Frostenson (@sfrostenson) January 2, 2019

A thing for which Frostenson was attacked because how dare someone criticize the latest Democrat to announce a 2020 run.

This is so bonkers it’s ruining a brand. Stop with fake takes for clicks. https://t.co/TqZhwevGqv

— anomamous (@rickagne) January 2, 2019

Is this serious? No wonder Trump won https://t.co/iesmctDLji

— Joe Banner (@JoeBanner13) January 2, 2019

point of order, Warren increased her vote share from 2012 to 2018. That's the opposite of losing support. https://t.co/71mO1q9nVW

— Ian Rennie (@theangelremiel) January 2, 2019

She was running against an incumbent senator, Scott Brown, in 2012, as opposed to her being the incumbent in 2018.

Huge difference.

This isn't the college football playoff; you don't get bonus points in your ranking for margin of victory. (And it was still a blowout!) She wisely shepherded her funds. Sheesh. https://t.co/Ea0SzJxVyJ

— Adam Bonin (@adambonin) January 2, 2019

This is so damn silly. Since 1970, only Ted Kennedy (1976, 2000) has been +39 or better in a contested #mapoli senate race. If your model says anyone should win a #masen seat by 39 points, then your model is daffy. https://t.co/8JYvh3dEQz

— Lance Harris (@CMassPolitics) January 2, 2019

It couldn’t be because someone like Warren just isn’t very popular or likable.

It has to be something more sinister, like rightwing media.

it’s possible that Warren’s approval ratings will sink her, but analysis like this ignores the fact that she is and has been a primary target of right-wing media moreso than her putative competitors https://t.co/TGjUESdivF

With stuff like that and failed DNA tests, it’s impossible to imagine why she would be losing support.

CNN’s Brian Stelter shared this quote from AP editor Sally Buzbee saying that the Trump-Russia probes have “gone on so long that it’s difficult to be able to assess what in this investigation is truly serious and what is not serious. So that is one thing journalists struggle with a little bit”:

Sun, 12/30/2018 - 21:08

No, seriously. Watch.

WATCH: Gov. Jerry Brown (D-Calif.) joins Chuck in an exclusive interview and says he hasn't done enough in his career to combat climate change. #MTP @JerryBrownGov: "We've got to get off this idea, 'it's the economy, stupid.' No, it's the environment." pic.twitter.com/r8mTwML29Q

Trump’s the MASTER of exposing their bias: Erick Erickson RIPS the media for years and YEARS of biased reporting in EPIC thread

Sun, 12/30/2018 - 20:38

For months (years?) the media has been doing their best to report negatively about President Trump, the First Lady, and anyone in his administration UNLESS they leave and then suddenly the media are huge fans.

And when they’re called out for this obvious and gross bias they get all weepy and claim that Trump is being mean to them and threatening them or some other horse crap. What they don’t seem to realize is most people who have been paying any sort of attention to their nonsense for the last decade or so KNOW this is not just because of Trump, and truth be told any Republican who had won in 2016 would be getting negative coverage 24/7 because that is WHO THEY ARE.

Truth hurts.

Erick Erickson spelled it out perfectly in this must-read thread:

An unfortunate reaction from the media: Trump blames the Democrats for kids dying and there is universal media outrage because he is the President doing it. But Democrats have been blaming the GOP for people dying for years.

— Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) December 30, 2018

Word.

You can hide behind "but this is the President" all you want, but this really does come across as a one-way bias against Trump and the GOP. Obama used some pretty incendiary rhetoric against the GOP on gun control issues and the media said nothing.

— Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) December 30, 2018

Not to mention Obama put kids in cages long before Trump but nobody knew it because the media chose not to cover it.

But we digress.

Democrats accusing Paul Ryan of wanting to push grandma off a cliff was no big deal. That idiot from Florida claiming the GOP wanted people to die was never as big a deal as Joe Wilson shouting "you lie." The Dems *last week* blaming Trump for these kids' deaths was no big deal

— Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) December 30, 2018

This is infuriating.

But Holy Lord in Heaven, Trump tweets out blaming Dem policies for deaths and suddenly the media is screaming about new lows. You all kinda lost out on the ability to be fair arbiters of this stuff when you repeatedly gave Democrats a pass on the SAME RHETORIC.

— Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) December 30, 2018

Pretty sure Erick is calling them hypocrites.

Yeah, he is.

I'm old enough to remember when you guys drove a GOP consultant out of a job for an ad that spelled out DEMOCRATS and slowed the RATS part in the ad. And then did not cover the Paul Ryan shoving grandma off the cliff in the same way.

— Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) December 30, 2018

We remember that too.

Good times.

The press has ceded the role of arbiters of fairness and good taste because they've shown just how much of a double standard they have in these fights.

— Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) December 30, 2018

Bingo.

RedSteeze added to the thread:

There's nothing they can do to get their credibility back under Trump. When they have a go at a President Harris/Booker/Warren/O'Rourke the way they have with Trump & continue this golden age of fact checking snark replying, only then. And everyone knows that won't happen.

— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) December 30, 2018

They will NEVER go after a President Harris/Booker/Warren or O’Rourke the way they’ve gone after Trump or the way they went after W. Democrats get a pass.

The fact that they gave Obama an 8 years pass on this is proof enough.

— William Amos (@WilliamAmos) December 30, 2018

What Will said.

We warned them what that would do to their industry reputation. No one's listening to them anymore. They think it's because of Trump. It's not. Trump is just a master of exploiting and triggering their bias.

— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) December 30, 2018

Bingo.

‘You should be deported’: Immigrant Brigitte Gabriel drops the HAMMER of REALITY on open borders advocates

Sun, 12/30/2018 - 20:32

Few know the U.S. immigration system better than those who actually immigrated to this country, which is true of ACT for America founder Brigitte Gabriel.

When I immigrated to America I made the choice to not just live here but assimilate into the culture and become American.

I even refused to speak anything but English in my house to my children.

People are not coming here with the same intentions anymore. It’s tragic really.

— Brigitte Gabriel (@ACTBrigitte) December 29, 2018

It is a tragic reality that is not seen or shared by Democrats, who are just fine with open borders despite the deadly consequences.

This is the American way – not chaotic invasions at the US-Mexico border.

That’s not how it’s supposed to work.

If you come here in violation of our laws you should be deported. That’s how border enforcement works.

— Brigitte Gabriel (@ACTBrigitte) December 30, 2018

One of the driving reasons President Trump won in 2016 was his insistence that he was going to build a wall and secure our borders.

Democrats may long regret their refusal to provide funding for common sense border security solutions.

Hey, Rep. Swalwell: Check out the arsenal the Internal Revenue Service is sitting on (no nukes, though)

Sun, 12/30/2018 - 01:25

Remember back in mid-November when Rep. Eric Swalwell tried to quash the idea of a well-armed militia even having a chance against a government that decided to confiscate guns? “The government has nukes,” he reminded law-abiding gun owners, adding, “they’re legit” for good measure.

Turns out that totally inappropriate flexing of government muscle against American citizens didn’t even have to go nuclear: it turns out the IRS alone is sitting on an arsenal of around 4,500 firearms, including 15 submachine guns stocked with 56,000 rounds of ammunition.

IRS Has 4,487 Guns; 5,062,006 Rounds of Ammunitionhttps://t.co/4FBCOLiWIW

— Ryan Saavedra (@RealSaavedra) December 29, 2018

Anyone who’s interested in learning just what sort of guns each government agency has can look it up at the United States Government Accountability Office in its recently published report.

So, yeah, the IRS alone has more than 5 million rounds of ammunition stockpiled. (Hey, even the Food and Drug Administration has 390 pistols with 167,000 rounds and 122 shotguns with 30,000 rounds.)

That explains, very concisely, why the Second Amendment is important.

— Ridge Runner (@Ridgerunner52) December 29, 2018

Speaking of buying guns on credit, the report says that the 20 federal law enforcement agencies in its review reported spending at least $38.8 million on firearms, $325.9 million on ammunition, and $1.14 billion on tactical equipment — at least $1.5 billion in total — from fiscal years 2010 through 2017.

“Massacres are frequently carried out by killers using military-grade equipment that’s easier to obtain when buying on credit.” First, what exactly does he mean by “military grade” — an AR-15? And second, what expensive purchase isn’t easier to buy with a credit card?

New York University professor and political scientist Ian Bremmer thought it was a great piece on “the role banks play in mass shootings.” Worth a read, at least.

Narrator voice: It's not worth a read.

— Q (@Q40398085) December 29, 2018

Not a great piece – a poorly researched and poorly argued piece.

— Jeff Konrad (@konrad_jeff) December 28, 2018

You mean that people use money to buy things? Not a terribly insightful idea. Neither is the idea that Americans are gluttons for debt. Been that way for about 100 years now.

— Kevin Hulse (@mf_khulse) December 28, 2018

NYTimes breaks story: people buy things with credit cards.

Even the Times knows it's an infantile take: comments are disabled.

Imagine learning, after paying a reporter for months, that people buy things with credit cards. Why, the shooter probably bought gasoline, as well.

— Radical Radials (@EchelonRight) December 28, 2018

Next piece by Andrew Ross Sorkin “The role gas stations play in mass shootings because they bought gas with a credit card.” Ridiculous!

— Matt Garvey (@ChewyJMG) December 29, 2018

As the photo clearly shows, the Vegas shooter used a wallet to hold all of his credit cards. Obviously the massacre would’ve never occurred if hadn’t been able to obtain one. When are we going after wallet manufacturers?

— Nathan (@NATHANINSOCAL) December 29, 2018

Credit is used to finance expensive things. Firearms are no exception.

An STI open-division race pistol can cost $5000.

My brother has a $10k Merkel side-by-side shotgun. I know people with $18k Krieghoff competition shotguns.

U can't use $$ to indicate intent.

— Jeff Konrad (@konrad_jeff) December 28, 2018

80% of groceries are bought with credit cards creating fat people. Does Mr. Bloomberg know this?

— glenn baker (@GlennOakcove) December 28, 2018

Few talk about the use of credit cards at grocery stores leading to obesity or car rentals leading to fatal accidents.
Know why? Because there is ZERO correlation. Much like yours. https://t.co/8y3DQkVEBx

— Sandy (@RightGlockMom) December 29, 2018

Pandora’s box…. where is the line of financial institutions dictating purchases on morality? Can we ban birth control pills or abortions from being purchased with Visa/MasterCard in that case?

— Live Monitor (@amlivemon) December 28, 2018

This idea might have some merit of guns were illegal. But they're not. You're simply imposing your personal moral judgement on people who disagree with you, in order to bypass agreed-upon law. It begs the question: is that moral? Maybe I don't approve of what you buy, asshole.

Bill de Blasio’s creating jobs: Workers will pick up used hypodermic needles from city parks

Sat, 12/29/2018 - 23:42

As the New York Post reported Friday, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s plan to deal with hypodermic needles left lying around city parks isn’t working — it seems junkies just aren’t using the needle disposal bins the city put up in places where it’s popular to shoot up.

“Parks in the Bronx are still littered with dangerous hypodermic needles, with nearly 60,000 found on the ground compared with just 7,000 in Hizzoner’s 44 locked containers,” the Post reported.

The Post has some good news, though: it looks like the city is going to hire six workers to clean up needles from city parks.

City will hire six workers to remove used needles from parks https://t.co/22JajvU7HA pic.twitter.com/0TePzdfc76

— New York Post (@nypost) December 29, 2018

The city doesn’t already have enough workers to do this?

— Jack Hipp (@jaywhip) December 29, 2018

Apparently not.

Finally, @BilldeBlasio creates jobs https://t.co/9QZ9C6xfda

— Cameron Gray (@Cameron_Gray) December 29, 2018

De Blasio literally urged New Yorkers not to patronize a Chick-fil-A that opened up in the city, but he’s fine hiring people to pick up dirty needles from junkies who didn’t avail themselves of the city’s handy disposal bins.

now there's a job that they won't have enough applications for. millions of unemployed will jump at the chance for a great job like this.

Guy Benson has an assignment for ‘reporters on the ground with Pelosi on her mid-shutdown Hawaiian vacation’

Sat, 12/29/2018 - 21:13

The murder of a police officer in California by a suspect who is in the U.S. illegally has many asking (rhetorically) why more in the mainstream media aren’t all over the story, considering so many Democrats support sanctuary policies:

This is the part that outrages people. How was someone who entered the country illegally, had known gang affiliations, and 2 separate prior DUI arrests still in the country?

That needs to be investigated. https://t.co/x4rnzU5ZjH

— (((AG))) (@AG_Conservative) December 28, 2018

And not a single Democrat has been asked about it in the middle of a government shutdown over illegal immigration. https://t.co/7ZnQcmAUzf

— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) December 29, 2018

With that in mind, Guy Benson thinks it would be a perfect opportunity for reporters near the soon-to-be Speaker of the House on her vacation:

Any reporters on the ground with Pelosi on her mid-shutdown Hawaiian vacation? Murdered officer was from her state, yes? https://t.co/SLf2SIVqbq

— Guy Benson (@guypbenson) December 29, 2018

Anyone in the media want to take up that challenge? Anyone? … Anyone…?

They can’t get past the wall around the compound she’s staying in.

LOL. We wouldn’t be surprised.

Not a peep from @KamalaHarris @SenFeinstein gov-elect @GavinNewsom either.

Here’s the list of journos who won’t be making themselves part of the ‘celebration of journalism’ story in Times Square on New Year’s Eve

Sat, 12/29/2018 - 20:56

As we told you earlier this month, it was announced that the New Year’s Eve ball drop in New York City’s Times Square would be a “celebration of journalism.” In spite of NBC News recently sharing a report that the U.S. had been added to the list of the “most dangerous countries” for journalists, many journos will nonetheless take the risk in order to be front and center in Times Square to help drop the ball:

this year @TimesSquareNYC New Year's Eve event is celebrating journalism – @PressFreedom is the "official charity honoree" of the ball drop

— Brian Stelter (@brianstelter) December 29, 2018

These journos will press the button for the ball drop: @MariaRessa, @JoelCPJ, @RBlumenstein, @vladduthiersCBS, @EFelsenthal, @KarenAttiah, @MurrayMatt, @MarthaRaddatz, @LesterHoltNBC, @JonScottFNC, @KarenToulon, and @NewDay co-anchor Alisyn Camerota

BREAKING: Rep. Steny Hoyer says Republican Mark Harris WILL NOT be seated Jan. 3 #NC09

Fri, 12/28/2018 - 21:57

Breaking news in the race for North Carolina’s 9th congressional district where we’re seeing a report that Democrats will not seat Republican Mark Harris come January 3 over continued allegations of election fraud in his victory in November:

BREAKING: Rep @StenyHoyer tells @wsoctv that Mark Harris will NOT be seated on Jan 3.

“Given the now well-documented election fraud that took place in #NC09, Democrats would object to any attempt by Mr. Harris to be seated on January 3." #ncpol @wsoctv pic.twitter.com/Uf0IZIRfQY

— Joe Bruno (@JoeBrunoWSOC9) December 28, 2018

Rep. Hoyer tells @wsoctv: "In this instance, the integrity of our democratic process outweighs concerns about the seat being vacant at the start of the new Congress.”

— Joe Bruno (@JoeBrunoWSOC9) December 28, 2018

The North Carolina Republican party issued a statement of its own, saying “We believe Mark Harris is the duly elected Congressman Elect and will be certified and seated sooner rather than later”:

Statement from NCGOP: "We believe Mark Harris is the duly elected Congressman Elect and will be certified and seated sooner rather than later." #NC09 #ncpol @wsoctv

— Joe Bruno (@JoeBrunoWSOC9) December 28, 2018

That’s pretty confident:

Asked how confident he is that Mark Harris will be sworn in as a member of the 116th Congress, @DallasWoodhouse tells me 100% #NC09 #ncpol @wsoctv

— Joe Bruno (@JoeBrunoWSOC9) December 28, 2018

One outstanding issue is Harris has yet to meet with the North Carolins State Elections Board:

State Elections Board says it has tried repeatedly to interview Mark Harris but he did not respond. @wcnc

— RadBerky (@RBerkywcnc) December 28, 2018

And there are 140,000 documents outstanding?

In a letter to the attorneys for Mark Harris, NCSBE Chair Joshua Malcolm said Harris' team has produced 398 pages of documents related to a subpoena but "140,000 additional documents that may be responsive… have not yet been produced." #NC09 @wsoctv pic.twitter.com/bkUJsBtItt

— Joe Bruno (@JoeBrunoWSOC9) December 28, 2018

The board refused to certify Harris as the winner today:

Mark Harris requested to be certified as the winner of #NC09 by Noon.

That didn't happen. At the time of the letter's issuing, NCSBE Chair Joshua Malcom said only two of the nine members on the board requested a hearing on the petition #NC09 #ncpol @wsoctv pic.twitter.com/qakU8I7R6i

Truth HURTS! @AG_Conservative takes media to the SHED in brutal thread about where ‘reporters’ get their stories

Fri, 12/28/2018 - 20:35

We talk a good deal about bias in the media. In an age where outlets like CNN are openly waging a ‘war’ with the president how can we not?

What we don’t address as much though is HOW the media itself gets to be this biased, which was a point @AG_Conservative made in a brutally honest thread about where reporters actually get their stories.

Let's about a major source of media bias that often gets overlooked: Where reporters get their stories.

Truth is that reporters often get their stories from activists. The problem is that many mainstream reporters mostly associate with and follow activists on the left. 1/

— (((AG))) (@AG_Conservative) December 28, 2018

So basically activists are driving the news cycle.

That’s insane, right?

To give a recent example of how this works in practice: Judd Legum, a far-left activist with a large media following, has been leading a campaign to get corporate companies to disassociate from MS Senator Hyde-Smith since the general election.

— (((AG))) (@AG_Conservative) December 28, 2018

Good ol’ Judd and his many campaigns to silence those he disagrees with by any means possible. He’s a real sweetie.

Companies tend to ignore these partisan campaigns until they get mainstream media attention. Putting aside what you think of this specific campaign or Legum (who imo is fairly dishonest), the point here is how his push becomes a story in mainstream outlets. 3/

— (((AG))) (@AG_Conservative) December 28, 2018

Exactly.

Sure, most of us know Judd is a pandering, biased, angry, hack looking to ruin people’s lives for having a different point of view than his. But once a media outlet like CNN or MSNBC picks up the story it becomes … NEWS.

Scary.

On 12/27 Judd Legum posted a long thread about how some companies never got refunds from Hyde-Smith (she is not legally required to give them).

A few hours later CNN ran with that exact story. The reporter happens to follow Legum.

Then The Hill copied the CNN story etc. pic.twitter.com/b4ZLf9Xlj7

— (((AG))) (@AG_Conservative) December 28, 2018

The reporter happens to follow Judd.

Color us shocked.

This is fairly typical of how these stories come about…

Problem is that most mainstream reporters would almost never source a similar story from an activist thread from the right (even a fare more honest activist). At best, it would get picked up by some right-leaning outlets.

— (((AG))) (@AG_Conservative) December 28, 2018

And then the Left would screech about how the right-leaning outlet is literally Hitler or something stupid and the story would get no traction outside of right-leaning circles … trust us, we know these things.

That creates a major source of media bias that is almost impossible to evaluate or quantify. Left-wing activists regularly get their campaigns and preferred stories highlighted in the mainstream press, which gives them more credibility. Rarely happens the other way.

— (((AG))) (@AG_Conservative) December 28, 2018

Which is ironically discrediting the media.

And the cycle continues.

Nancy Pelosi names House ‘Climate Crisis’ leader to battle ‘existential threat’ from emissions (after having flown to Hawaii)

Fri, 12/28/2018 - 20:28

When the Democrats take over control of the House early next month, there will be a committee dedicated to man-made climate change. Nancy Pelosi made the announcement earlier today:

It is with great enthusiasm that I appoint @USRepKCastor as the Chair of our new Select Committee on the Climate Crisis. We know she will bring great experience, energy & urgency to confronting this existential threat. https://t.co/PtKVsvvxXk pic.twitter.com/Ow3ukDfTuS

— Nancy Pelosi (@NancyPelosi) December 28, 2018

Rep. Castor says she’s ready for the challenge:

I am humbled by Speaker-designate Pelosi’s confidence in me to lead the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis. She is correct to reinstitute the Committee and urge action to address this dire and costly crisis. https://t.co/lz8WbnLSut

— US Rep Kathy Castor (@USRepKCastor) December 28, 2018

However, the committee likely won’t have subpoena power, but at least it’s got an impressive sounding name.

Hilarious new name for the House global warming committee. https://t.co/KFwOozJO32

— Phil Kerpen (@kerpen) December 28, 2018

Pelosi looks forward to taking over as House Speaker and kicking off a committee to figure out what to do about emissions… such as those caused by flying to Hawaii:
