THERE it is! MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt assigns segregationist senators Joe Biden ‘got things done’ with to the Republican Party

Wed, 06/19/2019 - 21:46

As we told you earlier, Joe Biden recalling a time he worked with segregationist senators to get things done might have caught CNN by surprise, but that wasn’t the case for many others.

The two segregationists Biden mentioned were both Democrats, but you might not have known that if you were watching MSNBC at a particular time today:

MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt Identifies Segregationist Senators from Biden’s Civility Boast as Republicans — They Were Actually Democrats https://t.co/Tz9F6GQw3O

— Mediaite (@Mediaite) June 19, 2019

Sigh.

MSNBC's Kasie Hunt says "Joe Biden references his relationship with two former Republican colleagues at an event in New York City. Only problem, they were both segregationists."

Ummm, both James Eastland and Herman Talmadge were Democrats. pic.twitter.com/vf9D0QMY4a

BBC host apologizes for hosting imam who has called for Israel to be relocated to the US

Wed, 06/19/2019 - 21:37

Obviously, you remember when Speaker Nancy Pelosi had a mess to clean up when freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar kept making anti-Semitic remarks on Twitter, like her famous “It’s all about the Benjamins, baby!” tweet (not to mention her tweet about how Israel “hypnotized the world” to get away with its evil deeds).

That mess ended up with the House passing a very “brave” resolution denouncing hate speech, including Islamophobia. Omar certainly played the Democrat leadership on that one.

It’s not just an American problem. On Wednesday morning, the BBC hosted a town hall with five contenders to take over as prime minister after Theresa May steps down over the Brexit mess. One of the questioners was an imam named Abdullah Patel, who wanted to ask the tories about Islamophobia. It wasn’t until after the program that the BBC learned that Patel has a history of what Yahoo News called “anti-Israel tweets.”

Abdullah Patel asked the contenders about Islamophobia, but has been criticised for past anti-Semitic tweets.https://t.co/qQlonuXv3h

— Yahoo News UK (@YahooNewsUK) June 19, 2019

Zionists pounce!

The BBC’s Nicky Campbell apologized Wednesday.

I would like to apologise. We had the Imam from the BBC Tory leadership debate on our programme this morning. His social media comments have been extremely disturbing. We should have checked. We didn’t. I’m sorry.

— Nicky Campbell (@NickyAACampbell) June 19, 2019

2) It was AFTER the show that Mr Patel reactivated his account revealing his tweets. We wouldn't have put him on the programme if these were public before broadcast but they were not. We also carried out a number of other routine checks which didn't uncover anything untoward.

— Rob Burley (@RobBurl) June 19, 2019

Oh well, live and learn. At least we know he supports Labour leader and anti-Semite Jeremy Corbyn:

BBC interviews British imam who has called for relocation of Israel to US https://t.co/ArIJir7aYi

— The Times of Israel (@TimesofIsrael) June 19, 2019

The Times of Israel reports:

Patel has since taken down his Twitter account but previous social media posts from @AbdullahPatel94 published by the Spectator include accusing the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance of either “lying about wanting to protect freedom of speech, or they simply wish to undermine @jeremycorbyn”.

In one message Patel also reportedly wrote: “How long are the Zionists going to hide behind the Holocaust cry? It was a tragedy, but Gaza today is a repeat of the oppression.”

Wow, it sounds like he could have a place on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’ campaign staff.

The answer is displacing jews! So original!

— Felix Castillo (@FeliKas) June 19, 2019

That's like asking someone to relocate mecca. We pray every day towards Jerusalem for a reason.

Let’s move Mecca to Alaska.

— MyName (@MyName27554891) June 19, 2019

Sending all the Jews from Israel to America and all the Muslims from America to Israel sounds a little racist to me?

— Dave Horton (@Gh0std0g) June 19, 2019

As much as I am disgusted by this man's suggestion, I would be filled with nothing but pride if all the people of Israel decided to immigrate here

— Cole McLamb (@ColeMcLamb) June 19, 2019

I sure don’t agree, but can you imagine the benefits to our country if we had the mentally tough, hardworking Israelis as part of our country?

— Dana Pico (@Dana_TFSJ) June 19, 2019

As a U.S. citizen I will agree to this but only on the condition that the entire U.S. Congress be deported to someplace where there idiocy can be contained.

— Tom Searl (@Tom81937534) June 19, 2019

We could then protect the Israelites, and let the Middle East destroy itself. Then move them back afterwards.

— Peter Wilkinson (@Rhino2966) June 19, 2019

Well said Nicky. I saw a screenshot of some of his (now deleted) tweets and genuinely couldn't believe he was one of the (random?) questioners on last night's debate. I trust the BBC will now make a fulsome apology and not leave you to carry the can?

Kyle Kashuv rips MSNBC contributor David Jolly for comparing him to a mass shooter

Wed, 06/19/2019 - 21:31

As Twitchy told you yesterday, MSNBC contributor David Jolly compared 16-year-old Kyle Kashuv’s offensive racist remarks to the social media postings of mass shooters. Which is quite offensive in and of itself, particularly given Jolly’s own problematic past.

Jolly got dragged plenty for what he said, but no one’s earned the right to drag him more than Kashuv himself:

I’ve said repeatedly that I'm horrified by comments I sent a few years back—I’ll spend years working to make it right.

I will accept and learn from the criticism, but I will NOT accept being compared to the shooter who murdered my classmates.https://t.co/f4d2mJGJld

— Kyle Kashuv (@KyleKashuv) June 18, 2019

Well said.

Stand tall Kyle

— MrsWeasler (@WeaslerMrs) June 19, 2019

I’m gonna get dragged for this but I honestly find the above tweet to be a very respectable response. No excuses, no defensiveness, but also no sniveling or groveling for approval. May disagree with @KyleKashuv on many things but this looks like maturity to me.

— pic unrelated (@bujwapropaganda) June 19, 2019

Kyle. My man. Don't you dare start beating yourself up. There isn't a person alive who hasn't made a mistake. The difference between a good man and a great man is how he learns from his mistakes. Every sinner has a future, and every saint has a past.

‘Do you remember this’? AOC flack Chris Cuomo gets a history lesson on trivializing the Holocaust — from himself [screenshots]

Wed, 06/19/2019 - 18:05

As Twitchy told you, Chris Cuomo elected this morning to remind us all what a colossally ignorant, dishonest, and biased hack he is by taking a page from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Big Book of Holocaustsplaining and informing us that “exterminated” really isn’t an accurate term for what happened to Jews during the Holocaust.

Exterminated? We use that for pests not people. https://t.co/pvJrUu4QmG

— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) June 19, 2019

That take is bad enough on its face. But it gets even worse in light of what Cuomo has said in the past:

‘BREAKING’! Marco Rubio fires back at NYT reporter who thought it was ‘very strange’ to see him at Trump’s rally

Wed, 06/19/2019 - 15:33

President Trump headlined a rally at a packed venue in Orlando, Florida last night, and New York Times reporter Michael Barbaro spotted a certain somebody in the audience and described it this way:

Very strange, for those of who covered 2016 campaign, to see Sen Marco Rubio smiling and chuckling in this audience.

— Michael Barbaro (@mikiebarb) June 19, 2019

Marco Rubio shot back with some sarcasm:

BREAKING

— Marco Rubio (@marcorubio) June 19, 2019

It’s come to this: Auschwitz Museum has some advice for journos and alleged ‘historian’ defending AOC

Tue, 06/18/2019 - 20:49

Since all the journalists rushing to defend Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for trivializing the Holocaust are apparently too lazy to do any research before they spout off, perhaps the Auschwitz Memorial can at least point them in the right direction:

@KFILE Please consider following @AuschwitzMuseum where everyday we commemorate and educate about the tragic human history of #Auschwitz.

— Auschwitz Memorial (@AuschwitzMuseum) June 18, 2019

The history of Auschwitz is far more complicated than this as it combined two functions: a concentration camp and from March 1942 an extermination center. See our online lesson: https://t.co/45MCqODtva

— Auschwitz Memorial (@AuschwitzMuseum) June 18, 2019

@chrislhayes Please consider following @AuschwitzMuseum where everyday we commemorate and educate about the tragic human history of #Auschwitz.

Welp.

Brutal but deserved.

They don't have to carry water for politicians. That was their choice. https://t.co/QQwAwfx7J9

— prop op (@ProperOpinion) June 18, 2019

But it’s not just journalists who are suffering from acute historical illiteracy and dishonesty; it’s historians, too. Historians like NYU professor Jacob Remes:

I’m a historian, a Jew, and an American who only exists because his grandmother escaped Nazi Germany as a teenager in the 1930s. I’m far more offended by my government putting people in concentration camps—as it is doing—than I am by learning from history. https://t.co/0T3IufJD4U

— Jacob Remes (@jacremes) June 18, 2019

And historians like Kevin Kruse, who’s actually not so much a historian as he is a progressive hack posing as a historian:

And in between those instances of FDR using the term, there was this 1943 proposal by Senator Tom Stewart (D-TN). pic.twitter.com/Cq7A3rCY53

— Kevin M. Kruse (@KevinMKruse) June 18, 2019

Here's some actual history for you:

During World War II, the Japanese American internees at Heart Mountain — in your state of Wyoming — called that a "concentration camp" as well. https://t.co/IWqnCJKojuhttps://t.co/j4FaPreyaKhttps://t.co/xu2sqlbwPJhttps://t.co/yFgcp96f6l pic.twitter.com/aNnLD7NHDX

— Kevin M. Kruse (@KevinMKruse) June 18, 2019

And AOC admires FDR for all of his fine work in advancing human rights. So maybe have a word with her before you try this argument.

Moreover, AOC specifically invoked “Never Again,” which is inextricably linked to the Holocaust. She knew what she was doing. And so does Kevin.

It's always really sad when you discover how little some white Americans know about the horrible atrocities some white Americans have done to POCs.

I'm so grateful for historians like Kevin who can drag em' back to reality with some FACTS. https://t.co/N8oi2VYvG0

Thanks. I wish historians didn’t have to weigh in like this, but here we are.

Yes, here we are: A place where historians will practice historical revisionism to protect a chronically dishonest and anti-Semitic congresswoman. The Auschwitz Museum evidently isn’t terribly impressed with the breadth of Kruse’s historical literacy:

@KevinMKruse Please consider following @AuschwitzMuseum where everyday we commemorate and educate about the tragic human history of #Auschwitz.

— Auschwitz Memorial (@AuschwitzMuseum) June 18, 2019

A simple request … but one Kruse won’t grant to them. He won’t be honest about history if it means having to be honest about AOC’s disgusting remarks.

Bjorn Lomborg BUSTS Time mag’s ‘clickbait’ cover over shrinking islands that are actually growing in size

Tue, 06/18/2019 - 18:41

Last week, Time magazine ran this cover of António Guterres, Secretary-General of the UN, standing on the island of Tuvalu to show how climate change is shrinking islands or something:

— TIME (@TIME) June 13, 2019

And now for the facts, via Bjorn Lomborg.

According to the latest data, the island of Tuvalu is actually growing in size:

Clickbait vs truth:

2018 Nature study shows Tuvalu *increased* in size despite sea level rise and 'will persist for habitation over next century'

— Bjorn Lomborg (@BjornLomborg) June 18, 2019

As a matter of fact, “no atoll exhibited a decrease in land area over the past decades to century”:

Story talks about all the 'vulnerable nations' like Kiribati and the Marshall Islands
Both have seen *increasing* land area

Indeed, lastest meta-overview shows "no atoll exhibited a decrease in land area over the past decades to century"https://t.co/I8S4tRzerx pic.twitter.com/9zyMoNDpL0

— Bjorn Lomborg (@BjornLomborg) June 18, 2019

“Findings thus suggest that projected sea level rise . . . may facilitate further vertical reef island building”:

How is this possible?
Bc small islands are dynamic:
Storms breaking up surrounding coral, washing up on beach, slightly increasing/rising area
Sea level rise reducing area
(& humans both increasing area and destroying it through destabilization)https://t.co/GV3C3dhSdA pic.twitter.com/Of9Y32ftB2

— Bjorn Lomborg (@BjornLomborg) June 18, 2019

“But, of course, scary alarmism sells better”:

Maybe, just maybe, Time Magazine ought to tell us, that *actually*, these islands are not disappearing under the sea, and that they will likely 'persist for habitation over next century'

‘It’s our holiday not his’: Bill Kristol wants to stop President Trump’s July 4th plans in D.C.

Tue, 06/18/2019 - 16:33

#NeverTrump leader Bill Kristol is not a fan of President Trump’s plan to host a fireworks show in D.C. this year to celebrate the 4th of July and he’s looking for ways to stop it:

Re July Fourth in Washington. Aren't there things we can do to try to save #AnAmericanFourth? It's the nation's capital, not Donald Trump's. Those familiar with the laws and regs governing the Park Service and D.C. government will have ideas; Congress could certainly weigh in.

— Bill Kristol (@BillKristol) June 18, 2019

There's often little we citizens can do to affect the behavior of a president. But the prospect of Trump's spoiling the celebration of July 4th in Washington is infuriating. It's our holiday not his. Why should we sit back and let him disfigure it? Let's save #AnAmericanFourth!

— Bill Kristol (@BillKristol) June 18, 2019

ICYMI, he’s referring to this from the president:

HOLD THE DATE! We will be having one of the biggest gatherings in the history of Washington, D.C., on July 4th. It will be called “A Salute To America” and will be held at the Lincoln Memorial. Major fireworks display, entertainment and an address by your favorite President, me!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 24, 2019

Well, it’s nice to see the bipartisanship going on between The Bulwark folks and the Washington Post’s Eugene Robinson:

Of course he does.
"The 4th of July celebrationhas long been a grand pageant of democracy, a family-friendly event that transcends ideology and partisanship. Trump intends to turn it into a cult-of-personality political rally in honor of himself." https://t.co/cTG6THS0MK

— Charlie Sykes (@SykesCharlie) June 18, 2019

And let’s throw in a little tariff-alarmism for good measure:

Trump is promising a “major fireworks display” in DC this 4th of July.

There he is! ‘Harvard’s newest blithering idiot’ David Hogg white-knights for AOC by punching up at Liz Cheney

Tue, 06/18/2019 - 16:30

As Twitchy told you, Liz Cheney was among the many people calling out Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for her insane assertions that Donald Trump is running concentration camps along the southern border:

Please @AOC do us all a favor and spend just a few minutes learning some actual history. 6 million Jews were exterminated in the Holocaust. You demean their memory and disgrace yourself with comments like this. https://t.co/NX5KPPb2Hl

— Liz Cheney (@Liz_Cheney) June 18, 2019

Needless to say, AOC didn’t take kindly to having a spotlight shined on her shameful and disgusting historical illiteracy and dishonesty:

Hey Rep. Cheney, since you’re so eager to “educate me,” I’m curious:

What do YOU call building mass camps of people being detained without a trial?

How would you dress up DHS’s mass separation of thousands children at the border from their parents? https://t.co/OOfrrfa1Ew

— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) June 18, 2019

But perhaps she can take at least a little comfort in knowing that the illustrious David Hogg has got her back and will deploy every ounce of wisdom in his arsenal against Liz Cheney:

Please do yourself a favor and learn about what your father did to Iraq before commenting on Genocide #SelfAwareness

— David Hogg (@davidhogg111) June 18, 2019

Wow, David. Such deep. Much profound.

MSNBC contributor compares Kyle Kashuv’s old social media posts to those of mass shooters

Tue, 06/18/2019 - 16:10

OH, FFS!

MSNBC contributor David Jolly, a former GOP Congressman in Florida, just compared Kyle Kashuv’s old social media posts to those of mass shooters. Have a watch:

"My immediate reaction when I really dug into this, these are the social media postings we see of a shooter and we ask, ‘Where were the signs?' See something, Say something," @DavidJollyFL said. pic.twitter.com/xx4shxjhW5

— David Rutz (@DavidRutz) June 18, 2019

This is just absolutely insane. Kashuv is Jewish and his parents are immigrants from Israel. Why would anyone think his writing “Kill all the F*CKING JEWS” in a shared Google doc with friends was anything other than dumb teenager humor? Here’s a screenshot of what Jolly is talking about via the HuffPost:

This was “pretty gross,” to put it mildly:

pretty gross, @DavidJollyFL

— Pete Valdez (@Pete_T_V) June 18, 2019

Kyle has actually tried to stop this from happening again through dialog and legislation. David Jolly owes Kyle an apology. #FixIt

— Deedo M (@Deedo_70) June 18, 2019

And maybe it’s time for Kyle to lawyer up:

That’s a leap and it might get him sued

— Greg (@gpalmmm) June 18, 2019

Does he want to get sued?

— Jorster (@jorster) June 18, 2019

Oh honey, STOP! AOC comes UN-GLITTER-GLUED after Repubs slam her for concentration camp comments (Liz Cheney bonus)

Tue, 06/18/2019 - 16:06

As Twitchy reported (and reported again because AOC is truly a treasure trove of twittery this morning), AOC accused Trump of running concentration camps along the southern border and managed to tick most everyone off.

Then she doubled down on her comments and accidentally knee-capped Obama.

And NOW she’s defending her comments and snarking at Republicans for calling her out, especially Liz Cheney.

Hey, she said please.

Liz’s tweet musta stung just a little because AOC snapped at her:

Every day this editor thinks to herself, ‘Ok self, if you have to write about AOC saying something stupid again you might start to actually drop IQ points.’ And then every day this editor opens up Twitter and sees AOC tweets like this nonsense.

Seriously, she has to be a plant.

AOC wasn’t just angry with Liz, she was busy shrieking at all Republicans earlier this morning.

And for the shrieking Republicans who don’t know the difference: concentration camps are not the same as death camps.

Concentration camps are considered by experts as “the mass detention of civilians without trial.”

And that’s exactly what this administration is doing.

— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) June 18, 2019

Wrong.

So wrong.

And that she’s trying to make this into a ‘Republicans pounce’ thing is just so gross.

@AG_Conservative took her claims apart:

1) They are not being detained without trial. They are awaiting adjudication. Most of the delays are due to a lack of resources approved by Congress.

2) I would call them temporary detention facilities.

3) Lastly, that doesn't explain you invoking Holocaust references. https://t.co/FhGK4BuvMm

— (((AG))) (@AG_Conservative) June 18, 2019

AOC is definitely not the brightest crayon in the box.

There are concentration camps that exist in the world today. The North Korean Gulags are a good example. The temporary border facilities we have consistently used to house immigrants while we process them at the border are not comparable. Any suggestion otherwise is ignorance.

— (((AG))) (@AG_Conservative) June 18, 2019

And one of main reasons those facilities are sub-par and adjudication is taking longer (aside from the huge influx of people crossing the border) is a lack of resources approved by Congress. AOC has repeatedly opposed providing those resources.

— (((AG))) (@AG_Conservative) June 18, 2019

At this point, she really should just admit she misspoke and apologize.

Yeah, right.

This has not been one of her finer moments …

— Daily Mail US (@DailyMail) June 18, 2019

We’ve said it before we’ll say it again, she’s GOT to be trolling.

From The Daily Mail:

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has slammed ‘fascist’ Donald Trump’s immigration policy, saying his administration is operating ‘concentration camps on our southern border.’

The Democratic Representative for New York’s 14th congressional district streamed a live Q&A with her Instagram followers on Monday, in which she doubled down on her criticism of the government’s crackdown on asylum seekers and migrants.

‘That is exactly what they are. They are concentration camps,’ Ocasio-Cortez said during the live-stream.

Sweet baby corn.

Watch for yourself.

Can someone PLEASE get @AOC a history book, so she can learn what the concentration camps were like? Comparing our border’s centers to camps where millions were GASSED TO DEATH is reckless and utterly false pic.twitter.com/g3I9BkLdWq

— Jessica Fletcher (@heckyessica) June 18, 2019

That she was actually elected says so much about Democrats, and ain’t none of it good.

DISGUSTING!

My grandparents were gassed to death in concentration camps by the Nazis, millions of Jews, men, women & children were gassed to death then burned to ashes in those camps. @AOC comparing ICE detention centers to that is absolutely disgusting pic.twitter.com/yJXYJ718wM

— The Reagan Battalion (@ReaganBattalion) June 18, 2019

She was clearly still upset with Trump for using her own words against her earlier in the day.

Eddie Zipperer wrote a pretty epic thread about how stupid AOC’s claim really is.

.@AOC: "This week immigrant children were moved to the same internment camps where the Japanese were held."

Please read this thread on how stupid that is… https://t.co/36urT4ClmD

— Eddie Zipperer (@EddieZipperer) June 18, 2019

In 2014, the Obama administration used Ft. Sill to deal with the influx of unaccompanied children crossing the border. It was literally the EXACT same thing that is happening now. They have to house the children until they find sponsors in the country to take them in…

— Eddie Zipperer (@EddieZipperer) June 18, 2019

But in 2014, the media framed the situation as Obama can't get the Republicans in Congress to do their job. ZERO outlets were reporting that Ft. Sill was once used as a Japanese internment camp because that is irrelevant context…

— Eddie Zipperer (@EddieZipperer) June 18, 2019

That fact is only being jammed into headlines now in order to make the Ft. Sill barracks sound scary and to make it sound like Trump is evil. That's the product that the MSM sells all day long: Orange man bad…

— Eddie Zipperer (@EddieZipperer) June 18, 2019

The Hill (2014): "Fort Still was one of three facilities set up last month to house the huge influx of unaccompanied minors crossing over the Texas-Mexico border"

The Hill (2019): "JUST IN: Trump administration to send migrant children to former Japanese internment camp: report"

— Eddie Zipperer (@EddieZipperer) June 18, 2019

WaPo (2014): "GOP lawmakers have questioned the administration’s decision to house thousands of the unaccompanied children at military bases."

WaPo (2019): "Geronimo and the Japanese were imprisoned there. Now Fort Sill will hold migrant children once again."

— Eddie Zipperer (@EddieZipperer) June 18, 2019

TIME (2014): "Obama Urges Congress to Approve $4 Billion in Funds for Immigration Crisis"

TIME (2019): “Trump Administration to hold migrant children at base that served as Japanese internment camp”

— Eddie Zipperer (@EddieZipperer) June 18, 2019

So, Ari Melber on MSNBC picks up the Time story that Trump is jamming kids in Japanese internment camps and does a segment on it. The segment uses this image with the TIME headline superimposed over a very scary looking internment camp… pic.twitter.com/8evwgO8Z3h

— Eddie Zipperer (@EddieZipperer) June 18, 2019

Cher tweets this unhinged take on it because even though she didn't hear about it in 2014, now it's the end of democracy…https://t.co/DGe6EI27Kl

— Eddie Zipperer (@EddieZipperer) June 18, 2019

All this ultra-hyperbolic MSM headlines are used by Democrats to score points for their "Trump is the end of Democracy" narrative…https://t.co/SBq3PwiIvX

— Eddie Zipperer (@EddieZipperer) June 18, 2019

This all leads to @AOC having to have the MOST insanely hyperbolic take comparing Ft. Sill, a military base- the kind of military base where our soldiers live all over this country- to Nazi death camps…

— Eddie Zipperer (@EddieZipperer) June 18, 2019

Now many of her millions of followers will repeat this lie and make stupid people hysterical. I can see why there are people who agree with Donald Trump's "enemy of the people" statement…

— Eddie Zipperer (@EddieZipperer) June 18, 2019

The MSM seems to be willing to damage the country in a lasting way in order to get more clicks on their wildly hyperbolic headlines. This is a total disgrace, and it's the reason that a big portion of the country feels animosity toward the MSM. They are doing their job poorly.

— Eddie Zipperer (@EddieZipperer) June 18, 2019

The media cares more about creating a narrative to hurt Trump while pushing the Democrats’ agenda than anything else.

Otherwise, they’d be the ones making fun of her this morning instead of us.

Such is the MSM.

‘Savage ratio’! Oven mitts won’t keep you from getting burned by this scalding hot WaPo take on ‘white Americans,’ ‘black athletes’ and O.J. Simpson

Tue, 06/18/2019 - 03:16

O.J. Simpson joining Twitter has helped spark no hotter of takes than this Perspective op-ed in the Washington Post:

Perspective: Twenty-five years ago, O.J. Simpson showed white Americans just how conditional their comfort with black athletes was https://t.co/v8FUdssGTv

— The Washington Post (@washingtonpost) June 17, 2019

Oh my.

This is a pretty savage ratio. https://t.co/levyVSyrqA

— Crotchety Old Nathan Wurtzel (@NathanWurtzel) June 18, 2019

It’s pretty epic.

If you can’t (or don’t want to) get past the paywall, Newsbusters has a summary:

That’s quite an assertion. Can the author, Phillip Lamarr Cunningham, assistant media studies professor at Quinnipiac University, back it up? Nope. And he doesn’t even try. It’s just an excuse to slight black athletes who are insufficiently race-obsessed.

From the Perspective in the Post:

The car chase, coming in the middle of the fifth game of the NBA Finals, cast a brief pall on what had been a watershed moment for black athletes. To suggest that Simpson overshadowed a decade’s worth of goodwill toward black athletes would be an overstatement. But Simpson, arguably a major source of this goodwill, certainly made clear the conditions white Americans put on their goodwill, even as the nation’s greatest black athletes continued to thrill and amaze.

You can probably guess what came next, in addition to the eye rolls:

Call me crazy but my comfort with ANYONE is conditional on them not being a murderer. https://t.co/NlJZNPAvDZ

AWKWARD: AOC babbles about protecting the ‘rule of law,’ admits Dems have a ‘very real chance’ of losing to Trump (watch)

Sun, 06/16/2019 - 15:19

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez went on ABC’s ‘This Week’ this morning and talked a LOT without really saying all that much. From questions about impeachment to whether or not Democrats should have given Bill Clinton a pass or not, it was a very full interview.

About not a whole lot.

And of course, nothing she babbled about was challenged … watch.

Rep. Will Hurd bounced from speaking at the Black Hat conference because he’s a Republican

Fri, 06/14/2019 - 22:47

For the can’t make this up file, Rep. Will Hurd — a former CIA officer and cybersecurity expert was just disinvited from speaking at the Black Hat conference, apparently because he’s a Republican:

NEW: Rep. Will Hurd (R-TX) has been removed as a keynote speaker at a major cybersecurity conference after critics slammed his record on women's issues including abortion. https://t.co/1Osch80wFr

— Axios (@axios) June 14, 2019

From Axios:

What they’re saying: “We misjudged the separation of technology and politics,” wrote the conference in a emailed statement.

This is effing bonkers, to put it mildly. Of course, Rep. Hurd should speak as he’s an expert on this and technology and politics are intertwined:

Hurd is one of the few members who understands cyber and how it impacts intelligence at a granular level. https://t.co/EStem6WYmS

— Russ Read (@RussCanRead) June 14, 2019

This demonstrates everything one needs to know about the state of things. @HurdOnTheHill is highly qualified to talk about cyber security & is a great guy. I wish I could say this is unbelievable. https://t.co/CwajNoA3HC

— Chip Roy (@chiproytx) June 14, 2019

If you recall, Hillary Clinton — of homebrew server fame — did speak at a cybersecurity conference last year:

It’s a good thing he’s not expert with years of field experience in this area, unlike *squints* Hillary Clinton who Black Hat hosted for a fundraiser. https://t.co/yOLVrC7JXp

— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) June 14, 2019

Make up your minds, libs:

You don’t get to warn and wail about cyber threats and election hacking and then boot an expert at the forefront in that over his prolife views. A country that does this deserves to get hacked.

— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) June 14, 2019

It’s a real problem if Rep. Hurd is “too extreme”:

This is why a lot of people on the right are concerned about recent efforts to deny platforms to certain speakers.

When a mainstream African American Republican Congressman and former CIA officer is deemed to extreme to be a speaker at a major conference, we have a problem. https://t.co/jvewAkJg9P

— (((AG))) (@AG_Conservative) June 14, 2019

pro-life cyber security is apparently cancelled https://t.co/uocL5qnNc1

— Jerry Dunleavy (@JerryDunleavy) June 14, 2019

He can’t be an expert on cybersecurity because he doesn’t support the Democratic Party’s abortion industry https://t.co/foxN1U0U5Q

— Orange Muppet Energy (@sunnyright) June 14, 2019

Here’s a taste of what they’re missing:

From yesterday's House Intelligence Committee hearing. The public and private sectors must develop a counter covert action strategy to combat disinformation and detect manipulated media like deepfakes, so we keep Americans safe from bad actors without impeding free speech rights. pic.twitter.com/t4c81zMMD5

You cannot read this brilliant thread about the anniversary of the end of Net Neutrality because the internet is gone and we are all dead

Fri, 06/14/2019 - 22:38

We have all become apathetic to the claims of the left about any policy that derives right-of-center. The tax cuts, pulling out of the climate deal, repairing Obamacare, and a number of other Trump Administration efforts were all promised to leave us as a nation with piles of dead bodies clogging our roadways.

One of the best examples of these hysterical reactionary promises was the issue of Net Neutrality. That particular policy was special because not only were we promised to be doomed out of existence but experts across the media attributed all manner of negative consequences would result.

Well this week was the one year anniversary of the striking down of the proposal, and it serves as a great lesson to go over much of the mayhem this was promised to provoke. Here’s hoping your dial-up services can load the entries, and someone in the house does not try to place a phone call and knock you off of the intertubes while reading!

Today is the one year anniversary of the death of the Internet.

Mark the occasion with a joke about how it costs 7 cents to send a tweet.https://t.co/HU6i6BcI5H

Remember how the Internet was going to be

really

slow

this?

No one better to deliver the unvarnished hyperbole than Bernie, the man who pledged to go after millionaires — and then promptly became one.

— Holden (@Holden114) June 11, 2019

How was this an attack, exactly? Well according to the article, “Stripping away net neutrality is the latest attempt by the Trump Administration to silence voices of already marginalized communities and render us invisible,” said Sarah Kate Ellis, President and CEO of GLAAD. I can come up with just one example that proves Sarah wrong: Eric Maza sure has not been silenced, nor marginalized. In truth, he is one who is working to silence and marginalize others, USING the internet.

Thankful the repeal didn't roll us back to rotary phones. pic.twitter.com/GFHSym841v

— Holden (@Holden114) June 11, 2019

Need to Google what “rotary phone” even means…if Google is still a thing anymore.

Then of course, there had to be a shorthand explanation about what the President has done.

The unprecedented era of innovation, creativity and civic engagement Netflix refers to is 2014-2018. pic.twitter.com/jHNl3GyZTZ

Just weeks after #NetNeutrality passed average internet speeds increased. That is an innovation, and it allowed me to engage with Jessica Jones on Netflix with a higher resolution.

Thankful to the Koch brothers for letting me tweet this. pic.twitter.com/7dZGJVR7dz

“Broke The Internet”. I’m going to need more bandwidth just to be able to draw up the list of how many times Alyssa Milano has been incorrect.

Explains why I never see abortion on the Internet anymore. pic.twitter.com/3wvZoCLpDl

— Holden (@Holden114) June 11, 2019

After that video of technicians using aborted fetuses as puppets, maybe less abortion information is not a bad idea???

Anyone remember when you needed ISP permission for what you can see online? pic.twitter.com/D88lLHuyLZ

— Holden (@Holden114) June 11, 2019

I had to pay $4.99 to read that tweet.

U mad? pic.twitter.com/3UPaJGG90n

— Holden (@Holden114) June 11, 2019

Note how those bleating about “full access” on the web are the same ones who cheer when Twitter suspends accounts, FaceBook deplatforms outlets, and YouTube demonetizes users with whom they disagree. (Quite certain there is a word for this, but Thesaurus.com is STILL loading!)

History is never pleased. pic.twitter.com/j5N9HWsODr

Points for clever double meaning of "throttle." pic.twitter.com/ofhJE5ZrQa

— Holden (@Holden114) June 11, 2019

Now let us not forget the true victims in all of this furor: the journalists!

I feel like you're selling me on repeal. pic.twitter.com/GHVNOIEcDa

CNN just calling apples.https://t.co/dBKcK9svUg pic.twitter.com/VMnvtKl97L

— Holden (@Holden114) June 11, 2019

Now you know something? CNN may have a case here. If you look at how their ratings have completely collapsed since Net Neutrality was rolled back…

Next, look at all the various groups that we no longer hear from as a result of this legislation. For instance, remember when we had black accounts on the intertubes?

I can't remember the last black voice I saw around these parts.https://t.co/oF095IC1cK pic.twitter.com/Ft222UHCmu

Think of the children.https://t.co/WmMfOPylBW pic.twitter.com/bDsLFxgjbf

— Holden (@Holden114) June 11, 2019

This place is so boring since we no longer are able to hear from the blacks, the students, and the rurals!

And to close it out, Holden brings up a valid point that explains it all:

It's telling that after this thread is getting some attention, hardly anyone is jumping in to defend Net Neutrality or excuse these crazy predictions. On Twitter where you can always find some crank to defend anything.

— Holden (@Holden114) June 11, 2019

It is one of the key components to outrage — there is never accountability after it is disproven. In fact, usually those shown to be blatantly incorrect still claim some form of nobility for “caring”. Frankly, anyone who was pushing this hysterical conspiracy should have their accounts closed down.
