Dude, WTAF?! ‘Academic’ claims Sri Lanka victims of terror attack could be Muslims because global Islamophobia and stuff (watch)

Mon, 04/22/2019 - 15:29

You know the face you make when you’re sitting at a red light and the car in front of you doesn’t go when the light finally turns green because he or she is on their freakin’ cellphone? Yup, just made that face.

Apparently, this academic ‘gent’ named Alan Keenan thinks the victims of the Sri Lanka terror attack could ‘very well be Muslims’ because of all that Islamophobia out there.

Watch.

Academic @akeenan23 says the victims of the #SriLanka jihadist attacks could very well be Muslims because of the global “Islamophobic” discourses that are happening. pic.twitter.com/CKQYIUKi30

— Andy Ngo (@MrAndyNgo) April 22, 2019

Dude.

For real?

Yah. That's the kind of thing that is going to anger people.

— Logan Carryall (@goNhavefun) April 22, 2019

Ya’ think?

That was some backwards thinking.

— Jason Townsend (@jasetownsend) April 22, 2019

Um, I call bull on that.

— Go Habs (@GHabs9) April 22, 2019

‘Outsulting’. Alrighty then, we learn something new every day.

And actually, this makes sense here.

The first mistake is listening to an “Academic.”

— Yukon Cornelius (@D1Overson) April 22, 2019

Good point, our bad.

Is this the “whataboutism” we hear so much about?

— Shirley Larkin Davis (@NuttysGirl) April 22, 2019

Or gaslighting, yup.

They were in CHURCH! ON EASTER SUNDAY! How in the world would they be Muslims?

— Monica Taylor (@MonicaLV1962) April 22, 2019

I wouldn't call Alan an academic. Rather, an activist. Big difference.

— Chihuahua Books™ (@Pablo_Chihuahua) April 22, 2019

Fair point.

WTF?! No prison time for Massachusetts man who sent white powder letters to Donald Jr. and Eric Trump

Fri, 04/19/2019 - 20:26

WTF?! How does the dirtbag who white powder letters to President Trump’s kids — one of which sent Vanessa Trump to the hospital — get NO PRISON TIME?

Um… "Man who sent powder-filled letters to Trump sons gets probation." Why? "Federal Judge Nathaniel Gorton said he declined to send Frisiello to prison because of concerns the 25-year-old would not respond well to incarceration" https://t.co/EE0nhHDaDS #smh

— Tammy Bruce (@HeyTammyBruce) April 19, 2019

Well, yeah . . . prison is SUPPOSED TO BE HARD. From Fox News:

On Friday, Federal Judge Nathaniel Gorton said he declined to send Frisiello to prison because of concerns the 25-year-old would not respond well to incarceration. Frisiello’s lawyer has said the man is developmentally disabled. But Groton stressed the sentence wasn’t “lenient”

Frisiello thanked Groton and said the past year has been “hell” for his family. Prosecutors objected to the sentence.

During the period of probation, Frisiello is prohibited from contacting victims in the case, sending letters through the mail, accessing the internet, and possessing and accessing computers.

According to media reports, that was out of character for the judge:

There was a collective gasp in the courtroom when Judge Gorton, known for handing down tough sentences, chose not to imprison Daniel Frisiello, who wrote threatening letters with white powder to many, including the sons of @realDonaldTrump https://t.co/k0Xi29HtHI via @BostonGlobe

— Maria Cramer (@GlobeMCramer) April 19, 2019

And we’ll just throw this out there:

BREAKING: Daniel Frisiello, just charged by DOJ w/sending hoax white powder letter to @DonaldJTrumpJr's family is a Massachusetts Democratic activist who donated to Act Blue in the same cycle they donated to MA's @SenWarren.

Dan Bongino: ‘Now it’s time for the REAL collusion investigation’ (with bonus blasting of Dem double-standards)

Fri, 04/19/2019 - 19:12

Now that the Mueller report has been released and Democrats are trying to figure out where to go next, Dan Bongino says it’s time to follow this trail to its completion:

Now it’s time for the REAL collusion investigation – the collusion between the Hillary campaign and Russians, and the collusion between the Obama administration and foreign intelligence spying on the Trump team. This is the real scandal.

— Dan Bongino (@dbongino) April 19, 2019

There will be no “let’s move on.” Forget it. It’s now time to expose the Obama administration’s role in the biggest political spying scandal in US history. There’s nowhere to hide, Justice is coming.

— Dan Bongino (@dbongino) April 19, 2019

If anybody’s looking for James Comey, apparently he’s out in the woods quite a bit.

As for all the Democrats & media talkers who are hyperventilating while trying to point out that the Attorney General isn’t the president’s personal attorney, Bongino had a flashback to a time when Dems and the media didn’t seem as triggered:

Remember Obama’s “wingman”? pic.twitter.com/NDf1rHI2fO

— Dan Bongino (@dbongino) April 19, 2019

We don’t recall much of an outburst from Dems and the lib media at the time. Go figure.

Yeah talk about being the presidents lawyer. Yet no liberal or media would say this at that time. Only when a conservative is in office. Unbelievable https://t.co/gHnCcf5Te1

Brian Fallon baffled why university didn’t cave to students protesting Brett Kavanaugh hire (suspects Koch brother collusion)

Fri, 04/19/2019 - 18:35

As we told you earlier this month, some triggered students at George Mason wanted the university president to rescind SCOTUS Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s appointment as a visiting law professor due to safety concerns. Those students won’t like the university’s response:

Here’s the response of George Mason University’s president when some students told him they’re upset the school is hiring Brett Kavanaugh https://t.co/o43GXQNi44 by @jbendery pic.twitter.com/oMCwp5vT3J

— Amanda Terkel (@aterkel) April 19, 2019

Former Hillary Clinton spox Brian Fallon tried to piece together why in the world the school didn’t cave to lefty demands:

George Mason's decision to stick by Kavanaugh despite student protests seems like it must be a donor-driven. The Kochs and the Federalist Society gave the school a combined $30m in 2016 alone.https://t.co/Q5hkLs2wje

— Brian Fallon (@brianefallon) April 19, 2019

There’s some theorizing!

All the tinfoil got used up yesterday, but we'll get you your hat sometime this weekend. https://t.co/YeTEawtAvu

— Chuck Ross (@ChuckRossDC) April 19, 2019

Next thing you know Sen. Whitehouse will be going through the university president’s high school yearbook with a fine-toothed comb.

Yeah. A school not bowing down to the mob and allowing a freaking SUPREME COURT JUSTICE on the faculty, *has* to be due to donors. Otherwise any rational school would remove the Justice. Yep.

‘Nailed it’! Becket Adams pinpoints why the Resistance is their own worst enemy in blistering thread

Fri, 04/19/2019 - 15:09

While the Mueller didn’t exactly make Donald Trump look like a choirboy (and face it: he’s not), it also failed to deliver the “collusion” bombshell that the Resistance was hoping for. Still, though, bitter clingers like MSNBC’s Chris Hayes believe that Donald Trump has done enough to make past presidents’ flaming corruption look tame by comparison:

Started laughing maniacally for a moment recalling the momentous scandal that was Bill Clinton hopping onto Loretta Lynch's plane for a chat.

— Chris Hayes (@chrislhayes) April 18, 2019

Chris may think he’s being cute or clever here, and it may get him those sweet likes and retweets, but as the Washington Examiner’s Becket Adams — who’s hardly a Trump cheerleader — points out, this sort of B.S. isn’t doing the Resistance any favors in the long run:

this attitude is part of the reason so much legitimate trump criticism falls on deaf ears: because many of the people pushing it the loudest also maintain that their own rotten team is mostly pure or at least victim of an overreactive, unfair public. https://t.co/OHKP14RvWL

— T. Becket Adams (@BecketAdams) April 19, 2019

an off-the-books meeting between the U.S.'s top cop and a former president/spouse of the target of an ongoing federal investigation, from which the top cop refused to recuse herself, is on its face shady and ethically dubious.

— T. Becket Adams (@BecketAdams) April 19, 2019

learning later from congressional testimony that the same AG's DOJ also instructed the FBI not to charge the investigation target with "gross negligence," even though AG explicitly testified that she deferred the matter to the FBI, certainly seems scandalous.

— T. Becket Adams (@BecketAdams) April 19, 2019

and for that matter, the secretary of state maintaining a homebrew server in her personal bathroom so as to avoid normal record keeping procedure and laws is a scandal.

— T. Becket Adams (@BecketAdams) April 19, 2019

the extrajudicial killing of an American citizen via drone strike is a scandal.

— T. Becket Adams (@BecketAdams) April 19, 2019

but if you're all "he wore a tan suit" and "but her emails," you're mostly signaling you're interested in trump corruption insofar as it can be used to whitewash your own team's malfeasance.

— T. Becket Adams (@BecketAdams) April 19, 2019

a mindset that says "can you believe people thought this legitimate scandal was a scandal?" tells people you're either delusional or a liar, neither of which will get people who don't already agree with you to take your trump criticism seriously.

— T. Becket Adams (@BecketAdams) April 19, 2019

downplaying past abuse by playing up current abuse suggests you don't care that bad people are in power. it suggests you care only that *your* bad people are not in power.

thank you for coming to my TED talk.

‘Remember THEM’: Mollie Hemingway calls Julia Ioffe out in a VICIOUS way during heated back and forth on Mueller Report

Fri, 04/19/2019 - 14:44

If we see one more yahoo in the media patting themselves on the backs pretending the Mueller Report in some way exonerated their coverage of the president over the past two years we may toss our computer out of the window and run screaming from the room.

It’s unreal how lacking in self-awareness these people really are … like Julia Ioffe for example.

One of my main conclusions from them #MuellerReport so far is that the vast majority of *reporting* on Trump and Russia was extremely accurate.

— Julia Ioffe (@juliaioffe) April 18, 2019

Extremely accurate.

Gosh, if memory serves the media spent the last two years insisting Trump colluded with Russia and yeah, THAT was inaccurate. So WTF is Julia even talking about here?

Explanation (because some of you clearly need one): of the evidence presented in the Mueller report, there is a ton we already knew from the REPORTING on the investigation. I say REPORTING—rather than hot take analysis on TV, Twitter, and elsewhere—deliberately.

— Julia Ioffe (@juliaioffe) April 18, 2019

Yes, it’s other people who need an explanation, Julia.

One must wonder if she’s bright enough to see the irony of her own tweet. Hot takes analysis is EXACTLY what she just did.

This is delusional and sick and sad, obviously, but I retweet so that you will REMEMBER THE NAMES OF THE PEOPLE who fed you the fake Russia hoax. Remember them. https://t.co/RUBszCldw4

— Mollie (@MZHemingway) April 18, 2019

Mollie wasn’t having ANY of it.

I'm sure she didn't *mean* it as a threat… https://t.co/tpDJns3YXI

Sweet baby corn, for real?

You know what, we got nothin’.

A CNN guest who straight up blamed Jews after a synagogue was shot up by a racist madman is now accusing @MZHemingway of “threatening” her because Mollie…mocked her collusion delusion and total lack of self-awareness of same. https://t.co/ZB1NQj2b1x

— Little momma (@ChiassonKrista) April 19, 2019

I hate to tell @juliaioffe, but @MZHemingway is one of the only voices of sanity out there an WE ALL KNOW IT! Ioffe’s remarks on Twitter yesterday were completely bizarre and deserved to be called out as such. I would recommend a 24-48 hour Twitter timeout for Ioffe.

Resistance alarm! Rachel Maddow wants Mueller himself at the Barr/Rosenstein presser tomorrow

Wed, 04/17/2019 - 22:35

The release of a redacted version of the long-awaited Mueller report will happen tomorrow, and the top two people at the Justice Department will kick it off with a press briefing:

Attorney General Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein will hold a press briefing on the Mueller report at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday https://t.co/odvGBjVb1q

— The Wall Street Journal (@WSJ) April 17, 2019

As we told you earlier, a dubious survey has shown that most Americans don’t believe the report will clear President Trump, and another detail about tomorrow morning’s release of the report has, of course, triggered MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow:

You don’t say! Rashida Tlaib’s been palling around with another anti-Semitic terrorist apologist

Wed, 04/17/2019 - 21:37

You can tell a lot about a person by the company they keep. So just in case Rashida Tlaib’s open anti-Semitism wasn’t evidence enough that she’s an anti-Semite, consider who she’s been palling around with lately:

SCOOP: ⁦@RashidaTlaib⁩ was seen hosting another anti-Israel activist who has a documented history of supporting multiple Islamic terror organizations. https://t.co/ibe7sXG0Ci

— Molly Prince (@mollyfprince) April 17, 2019

As the Daily Caller reports, Tlaib recently met and was photographed with Joe Catron during American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C. For those of you unfamiliar with Catron’s oeuvre, here’s more:

Catron is a long-time extreme anti-Israel activist and has openly supported terrorist organizations. He serves as the U.S. coordinator of Samidoun, the Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network. Samidoun is an affiliate arm of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a Palestinian Marxist–Leninist and revolutionary socialist organization. The United States designated PFLP a terrorist organization in 1997, and Australia, Japan, Canada and the European Union shortly followed suit.

Catron’s cover photo on both of his personal Twitter and Facebook accounts is a montage of a PFLP fighter donned in the organization’s official logo, as well as rockets and soldiers pointed towards a target over the state of Israel. It also displays the Arabic phrase “If you do [more attacks on Gaza] we will do [as well], hell is waiting for you.” The phrase is attributed to Mohammad Deif, the supreme military commander of Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s military wing.

In addition to supporting PFLP and Hezbollah, Catron has also be an advocate for the Sunni-Islamist fundamentalist and terrorist organization Hamas. In 2014, Catron was a participant in a press conference alongside Tawfiq Abu Naim, the head of Hamas-run security forces in Gaza. The press conference was to support Palestinian prisoners, according to The Gaza Scoop.

The Daily Caller’s report also includes some of Catron’s disturbing tweets.

In February, Joe Catron tweeted "I ♡ Hizbullah." Two months later, he was pictured meeting with Rep. Tlaib outside her office. https://t.co/zCDNpLgUAr

— Luke Rosiak (@lukerosiak) April 17, 2019

UH OH! Another 2020 Dem will defy DNC brass to have a town hall on Fox News

Wed, 04/17/2019 - 18:31

DNC chair Tom Perez has previously made it clear that he’s not interested in having any Dem debates on Fox News:

Just to be clear, Fox News will not serve as a media partner for the 2020 Democratic primary debates.

— Tom Perez (@TomPerez) March 6, 2019

Perez was also on Fox News recently and he asked Bill Hemmer to have a word with the network’s executives so it becomes a more attractive outlet for Dems who are running for president:

‘Disgusting bulls***’! Ben Shapiro drops the hammer on WaPo and Talia Lavin for this blatant, ‘gross’ smear job; UPDATED

Tue, 04/16/2019 - 20:29

As Twitchy told you yesterday, the Bulwark’s Molly Jong-Fast accused Ben Shapiro of politicizing the Notre Dame fire because Shapiro emphasized what made and still makes Notre Dame so special:

If we wish to uphold the beauty and profundity of the Notre Dame cathedral, that means re-familiarizing ourselves with the philosophy and religious principles that built it.

— Ben Shapiro (@benshapiro) April 15, 2019

Not to be outdone, disgraced former New Yorker fact checker, current NYU journalism instructor, and eternal garbage person Talia Lavin wrote an opinion piece for the Washington Post:

I wrote for the @washingtonpost about how the far right spread sinister, Islamophobic explanations for the Notre Dame fire, playing into a broader narrative of civiliztional conflict: https://t.co/Wz4lPZnKgr

— Talia Lavin (@chick_in_kiev) April 16, 2019

What she wrote was garbage.

This article is packed with full lies, half truths, assumptions, conspiracies, and was written with malicious intent. https://t.co/0Ft4LXEMBc

— The Reagan Battalion (@ReaganBattalion) April 16, 2019

To make her case that “the far right” has been spreading lies about the fire, Lavin groups Shapiro in with conspiracy theorists and white supremacists. These tweets are apparently supposed to serve as evidence that Shapiro’s a neo-Nazi:

Absolutely heartbreaking. A magnificent monument to Western civilization collapsing. https://t.co/UajArjkt2g

— Ben Shapiro (@benshapiro) April 15, 2019

It is. And that is why it is a central monument to Western civilization, which was built on the Judeo-Christian heritage. https://t.co/cS9oFzNz1P

— Ben Shapiro (@benshapiro) April 15, 2019

Now, Shapiro’s pushing back against the ugly narrative Lavin is peddling. He’s pissed off — and he has every right to be:

This, from @chick_in_kiev, in The Washington Post, is the sheerest form of disgusting bulls***. I blamed no one for the Notre Dame fire, since it was an accident by all available evidence, and imputing malicious intent to me is simply gross. https://t.co/e5gvQqQc2G pic.twitter.com/T98E2JWJXe

— Ben Shapiro (@benshapiro) April 16, 2019

Is there no low to which Talia Lavin will not stoop to slime conservatives? The answer, it would seem, is no.

Shapiro was tacitly saying the West is superior — but he always says that

— Poll Cat (@gato_danger) April 16, 2019

I wasn't tacitly saying Western civilization is superior to other civilizations. I openly say it, because I believe Western civilization is superior to other civilizations. In fact, I wrote an entire book on the topic, in which I explain why. https://t.co/5xxT67KKj6 https://t.co/u02Ju84WmH

— Ben Shapiro (@benshapiro) April 16, 2019

Believing in the superiority of Western civilization in the way Shapiro believes in it does not make him an alt-right neo-Nazi bigot. But suggesting it does makes Talia Lavin a mendacious, vindictive little troll. And it doesn’t speak highly of the Washington Post that they’d green-light such a blatant hit job.

Michelle Obama good enough to remind us why we DON’T MISS HER one bit with her nasty comments about ‘divorced dads’

Tue, 04/16/2019 - 20:01

Hey, good news.

Michelle Obama is still as awful as ever.

Take a look.

"We come from a broken family, we are a little unsettled. Sometimes you spend the weekend with divorced dad. That feels like fun but then you get sick. That is what America is going through. We are living with divorced dad." — Michelle Obamahttps://t.co/fkasDo4zKH

— Chris Cillizza (@CillizzaCNN) April 16, 2019

From CNN:

In an interview in London for her new memoir “Becoming,” former First Lady Michelle Obama delivered a stinging assessment of the state of American politics and, specifically, of President Donald Trump. Said Obama:

“We come from a broken family, we are a little unsettled. Sometimes you spend the weekend with divorced dad. That feels like fun but then you get sick. That is what America is going through. We are living with divorced dad.”

Wow, she has learned NOTHING.

Way to crap all over single dads all across the country, Michelle.

She was, and is, and will be just a hater of all things American!

— Blaine Massey (@BlaineMassey4) April 16, 2019

How unbelievably offensive this is. When I saw the headline I just assumed it was a column at how wrong that statement is. I was wrong. Signed – a divorced dad who actually parents his children.

— AirCornell (@aircornell) April 16, 2019

Broken family? Divorced dads = horrible president? Michelle, me love you long time, but these comments are so out of step with 2019 families. Common, girl I wrote about that here: https://t.co/NFEOKBvej1

— CarodyRB (@CarodyRae) April 16, 2019

I as a father take offense to that. That is gender bias. There are tons of children in America that are much better off with their dads than some deadbeat moms!

Words are hard: Senate Dems take on ‘Mitch McConnell’s court-packing agenda’ and people have thoughts

Tue, 04/16/2019 - 19:57

While Nancy Pelosi’s over there denying that the Democratic Party has an anti-Semitism problem, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is over here focused like a laser on the issues that matter. Namely, “Mitch McConnell’s court-packing agenda”:

Mitch McConnell’s court-packing agenda:

It's not packing when you seek to fill vacancies. It's only packing if you seek to create new vacancies on a court panel where none previously existed.

Only one party actually supports court-packing. Which party's Presidential nominees have endorsed this? The Democrats.

— El Jefe (@ElJefeTulum) April 16, 2019

But this is:https://t.co/snzDd0rWqa https://t.co/rRcmweq0ls

— Jerry Dunleavy (@JerryDunleavy) April 16, 2019

Yep. More from the Washington Examiner’s Jerry Dunleavy:

When Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez proclaimed that Democrats should “pack the Supreme Court of the United States of America,” she was floating a fringe fantasy of increasing the number of justices from nine to 15 as a way of kick-starting a left-wing transformation of America.

Now, the idea has gone mainstream. No longer the little-known primary candidate she was when she was speaking on Oct. 1 last year, Ocasio-Cortez, 29, is in the House of Representatives and her massive social media profile has propelled her to international fame.

AOC, as she is almost universally known, is one of the most prominent faces of the Democrats. Her pronouncements and the uncompromisingly radical section of the progressive movement she appeals to is pushing the Democratic party to the left.

Four 2020 candidates are following her lead and have endorsed or are open to “packing the court.” The pressure group Pack the Courts is advertising using Means of Production, a self-described pro-Marxist production firm that produced viral online ads for Ocasio-Cortez.

So maybe Senate Dems’ beef with Mitch McConnell is really just an exercise in shameless deflection. Yeah, that sounds about right.

We're in the midst of a judicial vacancy crisis and the nominees have been rated by the ABA to be better qualified than even Obama's nominees—and we all know the ABA is not lax on conservatives.

Maybe stop playing politics with the courts?

— Lyndsey Fifield (@lyndseyfifield) April 16, 2019

Playing politics is all they have left.

Exchange of the day: Mary Katharine Ham explains the difference between spying and surveillance to CNN panel

Tue, 04/16/2019 - 15:51

This exchange between Mary Katharine Ham and a CNN panel on the differences between spying and surveillance is a few days old, but as Mollie Hemingway says below, we’re still “chuckling” over it.

In summary, there is no difference between the two words “because they’re synonyms”:

I keep chuckling over this exchange:

FINNEY: But why spying instead of surveillance if you know the difference.

TAPPER: Yes.

MARY KATHARINE HAM, CNN POLITICAL COMMENTATOR: Because they're synonyms. That's why.https://t.co/8cx6QchBtB

— Mollie (@MZHemingway) April 16, 2019

HAM: Surveilling Americans is indeed a very large and scary deal… And it remains one now just as it was then.

FINNEY: …again, in using the word spying, he was trying to throw a negative connotation on —

HAM: There's a negative connotation on spying on American citizens.

— Mollie (@MZHemingway) April 16, 2019

Bonus exchange:

Listening to @mkhammer having to explain to the @CNNSotu table what the word "spying" means was comically tragic. Looking @jaketapper in the eye and saying, "If you're surveilling someone, you're spying on them." Jake graciously conceded the point. LOL

— PoliticalPopcornNews (@PPN_News) April 11, 2019

This, naturally, triggered Resistance warrior Seth Abramson, who asked MKH to apologize:

4/ What @mkhammer could do, as could anyone who makes a mistake on TV, is go on social media and say, I made a mistake and said the Attorney General was talking about authorized surveillance when he was talking about unauthorized surveillance. And that apology should be accepted.

— Seth Abramson (@SethAbramson) April 11, 2019

Er. . ., yeah. That’s not going to happen:

He clarified & said that’s what he was referring to; there is an open question & IG investigation into whether there was improper use of FISA here; & I’ve always been VERY wary of gov’t surveillance of American citizens bc there’s plenty precedent for abuse, even when authorized.

— Mary Katharine Ham (@mkhammer) April 11, 2019

I fail to see how that makes me a dissembler. You think “spying” has negative connotations? Good, govt surveilling American citizens w/o their knowledge, esp through FISA Ct, should have negative connotations. It could just be that I…disagree with you.

— Mary Katharine Ham (@mkhammer) April 11, 2019

And, if that puts me on the opposite site of the issue from someone like Clapper, who lied under oath to Congress about *spying* on American citizens by dragnetting our data, I’m okay with that.

Is this incitement? @neontaster busts fraud Ilhan Omar for her ‘convenient’ patriotism with ‘absolutely brutal’ shot-chaser

Mon, 04/15/2019 - 23:00

Over the weekend, Ilhan Omar grabbed about 12 more shovels and got to work digging her grave a few hundred feet deeper:

This country was founded on the ideas of justice, of liberty, of the pursuit of happiness. But these core beliefs are under threat. Each and every day. We are under threat by an administration that would rather cage children than pass comprehensive immigration reform.

— Ilhan Omar (@IlhanMN) April 13, 2019

Aside from the fact that she’s clearly talking out of her butt, she’s also apparently hoping that the rest of us haven’t been paying attention to the horrible things she’s said. As tweeter @neontaster points out, Ilhan Omar’s position on our country’s greatness is somewhat … flexible:

Pete Buttigieg: America isn’t ‘much of a democracy’ because of that Electoral College thing

Mon, 04/15/2019 - 22:24

We honestly don’t know because there are so many of them running, but we know one of the central platforms of the Democratic candidates’ efforts in 2020 is the elimination of the Electoral College, which isn’t something the president could do, but it makes people still angry that Hillary lost cheer and donate money.

Add South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg to the list of Democrats calling to do away with the Electoral College:

.@PeteButtigieg: "We can’t say it’s much of a democracy when twice in my lifetime, the Electoral College has overruled the American people … Let’s pick our President by counting up all the ballots and giving it to the woman or man who got the most votes" https://t.co/ak42dRUf5R pic.twitter.com/EpCC54432k

— CNN (@CNN) April 14, 2019

It’s not much of a democracy when it’s always been a republic.

He knows we're a democratic republic right ? This is why we need civics back in schools.

— Cowboy Rob (@_Refrigerators_) April 15, 2019

Let's stay with the electoral college. After all, the "fly over" states will never cut their own throats politically. There us no way that 3/4 of the states will agree to a dimishment of their influence. This kind of talk is just political demagoguery to divide the nation.

— Joe American (@MidAmericanGuy) April 15, 2019

How many presidential candidates would waste 5 minutes in Buttigieg’s Indiana when it could be spent in New York or Los Angeles?

The founders didn't want concentrated control. The electoral college disperses that control to force broad based appeal and consideration of all Americans. Two senators from each state regardless of population additionally ensures such. Thus all Americans have a voice. Perfect

— Bernie (@berniev1960) April 14, 2019

And yet Democrats are falling over themselves to undo it — because Hillary lost, period. If she’d won, this discussion would not be happening.

We don’t live in a democracy. We live in a republic. And the electoral college was designed for everyone’s voice to be heard. So states as big as california with different needs and different opinions won’t overshadow the voice of other smaller states.

— Angelo Ray Gomez (@AngeloRayGomez) April 15, 2019

It’s a republic. The United States is not and was not designed to be a pure democracy, and for very good reasons.

— Gail Finke (@gailfinke) April 15, 2019

You and 9 other people must make a life or death decision as a group. Everyone must abide by the vote, 7 of them are from California and are clinically insane, they always vote the same way. Where does that leave you and the other two?

— claymeyers (@claymeyers) April 14, 2019

It’s not a democracy. I can’t believe the people who are vying for control of our nation have ZERO idea what and who we are. No wonder their so quick to destroy it. They have no idea what they’re destroying.

Brian Stelter did some CNN-style journalisming and discovered why the Minnesota congresswoman has been in the headlines for so long:

NYT reporter is apparently struggling with the meaning of ‘evidence developed during the (Mueller probe) is not sufficient’

Sun, 04/14/2019 - 21:38

New York Times reporter Peter Baker attempted to use Attorney General William Barr’s letter disclosing the conclusion of the Mueller report to refute a quote by White House press secretary Sarah Sanders.

Mueller (as quoted by Barr): "While this report does not conclude that the president committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him.”

Sanders: "There was no obstruction which I don't know how you can interpret that any other way than total exoneration."

— Peter Baker (@peterbakernyt) April 14, 2019

But there are a couple of problems.

For one, he left out this key point from the letter written by both Barr and deputy AG Rod Rosenstein.

This NYT reporter is apparently unaware that Barr's and Rosenstein "concluded that the evidence developed during the Special Counsel's investigation is not sufficient to establish that the President committed an obstruction-of-justice offense." https://t.co/PvyMbXbJuK

— Mollie (@MZHemingway) April 14, 2019

For another, even if it did, it would not be up to Robert Mueller about whether prosecution or non-prosecution should occur.

Prosecutors don't exonerate. They prosecute or they don't. If they don't, you are presumed innocent (exonerated).

This is how it works in this place called "America" https://t.co/cVbe8fpJ9d

— Larry O'Connor (@LarryOConnor) April 14, 2019

Prosecutors don't exonerate. They either file charges or they don't. When they don't, the subject of their investigation is legally not guilty just like everyone else. As such it is in essence an exoneration. Attorneys would love juries to come back not guilty/not exonerated.

— Yossi Gestetner (@YossiGestetner) April 14, 2019

Many believe that Mueller was out of line in declaring that the report did not exonerate Trump.

It’s disturbing that Mueller and Weismann think prosecutors even have the authority to “exonerate.” That’s not how the justice system in this country works. The fact is Mueller declined to charge Trump with any crimes after a 2-year investigation. https://t.co/lhURQBSHeg
