‘JUST IN’: Y’all had better brace yourselves for The Hill’s hot scoop on Donald Trump and Pete Buttigieg

Thu, 05/16/2019 - 21:12

BREAKING NEWS from The Hill, you guys: Apparently Donald Trump doesn’t care that Pete Buttigieg is gay.

JUST IN: Trump says he thinks "it's great" seeing Buttigieg onstage with husband, has "no problem" with it https://t.co/lSfBIJOUi4 pic.twitter.com/nLcPj0sKWV

— The Hill (@thehill) May 16, 2019

Tell us something we didn’t know, The Hill. Seriously. Because this is pretty much on-brand for Donald Trump:

“I think it’s absolutely fine. I do,” Trump said when asked about the pair on Fox News’s “The Next Revolution with Steve Hilton,” in an interview to be aired Sunday.

When Hilton pressed him further, noting that it can be taken as “a sign of great progress,” Trump added, “Yes, I think it’s great. I think that’s something that perhaps some people will have a problem with. I have no problem with it whatsoever. I think it’s good.”

So basically, Trump is who we thought he was.

Why freaking should he?? He was pretty clear about it from the beginning.

— liifeisgood (@liifeisgood2) May 16, 2019

Remember two weeks ago when Buttigieg said he was itching to “have that fight” with Trump on “which one of us has a more traditional attitude on marriage”? LOL!

Trump continues to be the most pro-gay Republican President ever! https://t.co/aCsMmnZt2q

— Gregory T. Angelo (@gregorytangelo) May 16, 2019

narrator: neither does (much to their dismay) @VP

— Reince #CalmingFeeling Niebuhr (@ReinceNiebuhr) May 16, 2019

How stupid to even write such an article…………… The perception of Trumps views on LGBTQ community is media driven propaganda. Are we ever going to reach a point when who a person sleeps with isn't news?

Not if the brave firefighters at outlets like The Hill have anything to say about it.

Don’t look now Joe Scarborough, but 1 tweet from Jonah Goldberg just DISMANTLED your guest’s abortion DUNK on Trump

Thu, 05/16/2019 - 13:53

Ok, who let all of the ‘pro-choice’ crazy out a couple of days ago? C’mon, fess up. We won’t be mad … we just want to know who didn’t lock the gate after feeding these insane people.

We get it, the abortion ban laws have likely driven most of them over the edge but holy COW, the amount of hate and crazy directed at pro-life out there right now is impressive and not in a good way. And leave it to Morning Joe to welcome a panel filled with more ‘hate and crazy’ to dump a little gasoline on the fire.

Jonah Goldberg was good enough to call some of it out:

Someone needs to tell the Morning Joe panel that the Trump quote Mike Barnicle read with such outrage and contempt was a paraphrase of something the Democratic Governor of Virginia said, drawing on his experience as a pediatric neurologist. pic.twitter.com/3P9V5IN1zh

— Jonah Goldberg (@JonahNRO) May 16, 2019

How dare Trump quote Ralph ‘Blackface’ Northam!

The MONSTER.

They don’t care, they are just hoping their viewers are none the wiser

— Phyliss Walker (@pdkwalk) May 16, 2019

We’re going to guess most of their viewers are none the wiser about a good many things.

They know.
But enraging the base is the goal.

— AtticusLee (@AtticusLee6) May 16, 2019

How is it some still do not know this? Such dishonesty.

— JWF (@JammieWF) May 16, 2019

The Hill came up with a new way to say Republicans pounced on Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s Holocaust comments

Wed, 05/15/2019 - 22:30

Hey … did you know that Rashida Tlaib is one of the first two Muslim women elected to Congress? Oh, you’d heard? The media does seem pretty breathless about it, seeing as anything Tlaib does will be done by one of the first two Muslim women elected to Congress. On Wednesday, she presided over the House floor.

I'd be excited about this if she wasn't one of the most undeserving people in America. https://t.co/tH6lQ5OVVQ

— Brandon Morse (@TheBrandonMorse) May 15, 2019

And America will look back on the moment in shame.

— Trey Best (@TreyBest6) May 15, 2019

Shame she says all the horrible things she does.

— DiGriz (@TheDigriz) May 15, 2019

Rewrite Holocaust history and hate Jews and you too can preside over the House floor. https://t.co/NgXgbtageN

— Ben McDonald (@Bmac0507) May 15, 2019

Man, are people still pouncing on her for her revisionist history lesson in which Palestinians heroically created a “safe haven” for Jews after the Holocaust?

This tweet is from Tuesday, but we sort of have this thing about collecting “Republicans pounce” stories — the ones where the piece is never concerned with whatever stupid thing a Democrat did or said but rather Republicans’ reactions to it.

We’ve seen “Republicans pounce” a ton of times, and “Republicans seize” more than a few times, but The Hill put in some effort and reported that Republicans had “amped up” their attacks on Tlaib by calling her out for her complete falsehoods.

Um, what were those Holocaust comments again?

Has The Hill actually bothered doing any coverage of her comments?

I'm not actually asking, the only three pieces on this issue attack DJT, Liz Cheney, and Republicans. Great reportering guys.

Fierce critic of bare feet on airplanes posts (and then deletes) topless photo to promote USA Today op-ed that calls Trump a ‘laughingstock’ [Screenshot]

Wed, 05/15/2019 - 17:27

“Alexa, what is the opposite of click-bait?”

In a now-deleted tweet, #NeverTrump member Tom Nichols posted this topless photo to promote his recent op-ed for USA Today titled, “US adversaries are watching us self-destruct as Trump foreign policy spins into chaos.”

Well, someone is the “laughingstock” but we’re not sure it’s Trump:

Yes, he freed the nipple:

Before deleting the tweet, he defended the photo as perfectly acceptable because he was at the pool:

As you are all concerned about my decorum, here are my rules:
You *may* show moobs by a pool.
You may *not* return through the casino showing said moobs. (Note shirt)
You may *never* show moobs or bare feet on an airplane. pic.twitter.com/o4WqMROmBW

— Tom Nichols (@RadioFreeTom) May 14, 2019

And for some reason, people mocked the photo:

Tom should be deplatformed for this. https://t.co/CoZRNrEu5O

— Andrea Ruth (@AndreaNRuth) May 15, 2019

I now understand why men wear t-shirts in the pool.

Nichols, aside from his #NeverTrump commentary, is known for his fierce criticism of people who take off their shoes and socks on airplanes:

— prop op (@ProperOpinion) May 15, 2019

‘Hell must be freezing over’! Elizabeth Warren’s war on Fox News is NOT impressing ANYBODY on ‘The View’

Wed, 05/15/2019 - 17:16

Bette Midler was so thrilled by Warren’s stance that she sent her campaign a check, but others — everybody on “The View” in this case — weren’t impressed by Warren’s war on Fox News (that’s basically a fundraising stunt):

‘The View’ Hosts All Rip Warren for Refusing to Go on Fox News: ‘Very Dismissive,’ ‘Shortsighted on Her Part’ https://t.co/6LMm11p063

— David Rutz (@DavidRutz) May 15, 2019

The View slams Elizabeth Warren for not going on Fox News:

Sunny Hostin: “It's very dismissive of so many Americans”

Warren will be on “The View” in the near future, so maybe they can ask her about it. Warren’s spin will no doubt be entertaining:

Brit Hume shoots some pretty gaping holes in ‘the case for abortion rights’

Wed, 05/15/2019 - 17:10

Regardless of how you feel about the controversial Alabama abortion bill, the fact that abortion — or, rather, a successful abortion — results in the death of at least one living human being really shouldn’t be up for debate. So why is it?

Brit Hume can’t help but notice the measures abortion advocates take to avoid ever having to acknowledge what abortion actually entails:

If the case for abortion rights is so strong, why is it always cloaked in such euphemisms as “choice,” “women’s health,” and the biggest howler of all, “reproductive rights?” Whatever abortion is about, it is most certainly not about “reproduction.”

— Brit Hume (@brithume) May 15, 2019

Well said.

My favorite is "reproductive justice."

These days, just tack "justice" onto the end of whatever your pet issue is, and then no one can argue against it

— David Dominianni (@DavidDominianni) May 15, 2019

Abortion is certainly not about “planned parenthood” either. It’s the death of parenthood.

— AmericanOutlaw (@OldWestOutlaw) May 15, 2019

Probably because when your argument/position is intellectually, spiritually and morally bankrupt you must cloak it somehow to make it sound acceptable.

GAME OVER: Palestinian historian fact checks Rashida Tlaib, says ‘I don’t know what she meant’

Tue, 05/14/2019 - 17:09

Historically illiteral Rep. Rashida Tlaib is being called out by Israeli and Palestinian historians over her claim that Arabs helped Jews created a safe haven in Israel after WWII.

Thread via the Washington Examiner’s Seth Mandel:

“‘Rashida Tlaib is either completely ignorant of the history or is a deliberate liar’, charged Prof. Benny Morris, one of the leading scholars of British Mandatory Palestine, the creation of the State of Israel in 1948 and the War of Independence.” https://t.co/VJRweO2H9T

— Seth Mandel (@SethAMandel) May 14, 2019

“Both Israeli and Palestinian scholars told Haaretz that they had great difficulty embracing any view of history in which the Palestinians played any part in providing a “safe haven” for Jewish refugees of the Holocaust.”

— Seth Mandel (@SethAMandel) May 14, 2019

And GAME OVER:

Lmaaaoooooo “Palestinian historian Dr. Adel Manna, a senior research fellow at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute, expressed bewilderment when asked about Tlaib’s “safe haven” reference.

“I don’t know what she meant,” Manna said.”

— Seth Mandel (@SethAMandel) May 14, 2019

“Israeli historian and writer Tom Segev also said he was confused by Tlaib’s “safe haven” description.

“I have never heard anybody say that before,” he told Haaretz.”

— Seth Mandel (@SethAMandel) May 14, 2019

Bah-roo-tal

“I really want to give her the benefit of the doubt that she really meant it,” Segev said, “but to me — and maybe I’m cynical — it sounded like an attempt to be ironic or sarcastic.”

— Seth Mandel (@SethAMandel) May 14, 2019

More from Haaretz:

Palestinian historian Dr. Adel Manna, a senior research fellow at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute, expressed bewilderment when asked about Tlaib’s “safe haven” reference.

“I don’t know what she meant,” Manna said.

He said that history shows that Jewish immigration before, during and after the Holocaust represented a “colonial settler project” that was clearly leading to Palestinian displacement. Throughout the 1930s and ’40s, Manna said, Palestinians actively resisted Jewish immigration — as they had in the period preceding the rise of Nazism.

And:

Therefore, it was “not true” that Palestinians played any role in creating a “safe haven” for Jews, whose leaders were already planning “to occupy their country and transform it into a Jewish state,” Manna said. Zionist leaders of the time, he added, “needed people just as they needed the lands,” in order to make their “settler colonial society strong enough to gain independence and occupy the country.”

Oh HELL YEAH! Father of teen girls Rep. Brian Sims threatened and bullied comes out SWINGING and it is SO on

Tue, 05/14/2019 - 16:52

It certainly seems to be raining crap all over PA Rep Brian Sims. You guys remember Brian, right? The big tough guy who bragged in social media about bullying an elderly woman for praying outside a Planned Parenthood and who also offered $100 for anyone who could dox teenage girls for him?

Yeah, he’s a real sweetie.

Welp sounds like the father of the teenage girls Sims tried to intimidate has thrown down the gauntlet.

BREAKING:@joegarecht the father of the teen girls Brian Sims bullied is calling on @RepSims resign immediately.

“The right course of action is for Rep Sims to resign. If he fails to resign, it is up to the Pennsylvania General Assembly to take action."https://t.co/20fQzkOzNF

— LifeNews.com (@LifeNewsHQ) May 14, 2019

From LifeNews.com:

The father of the teenage girls subjected to harassment and intimidation by Democrat state legislator Brian Sims is calling on the pro-abortion elected official to resign immediately.

Joe Garecht told LifeNews that Sims should step down from his position in the Pennsylvania state legislature and that, if he doesn’t, the legislature should take actions to remove him from his position after he filmed himself harassing, bullying and doxxing pro-life women and his daughters.

“Over the past week, Ashley and I have heard from many people, on both sides of the aisle and both sides of the abortion debate, who have told us that they are appalled at the actions of Rep. Sims. They have told us that they think it is only right that Rep. Sims resigns. We couldn’t agree more,” he told LifeNews.

“The right course of action is for Representative Sims to resign. I encourage everyone who believes that public servants should uphold the law and the Constitution to sign the petition asking Brian Sims to resign,” he said. “If he fails to resign, it is up to the Pennsylvania General Assembly to take action to uphold its good name.”

Meanwhile, Brian is still locked down on Twitter because you know, he’s so big and tough.

Good! That tool needs to go!

— regularcanadian (@regularcanadia2) May 14, 2019

Yup. If he won’t resign then public servants (you know, people who serve the public, not the other way around) should be more than happy to do their job.

— Larry ninman (@LNinman) May 14, 2019

WaPost fact checker is fighting with journos over his 4 Pinocchios ruling for Bill Nelson and Russian hacking

Tue, 05/14/2019 - 16:51

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said in a press conference on Tuesday that Russian hackers had breached a second county’s voter databases in the 2016 election:

NEW: Following a briefing from the FBI, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis revealed Tuesday that a second county in the state was hacked during the 2016 election.

Robert Mueller’s report on interference with the election said that “at least one” Florida county had been breached.

— Josh Campbell (@joshscampbell) May 14, 2019

From the AP:

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — After an FBI briefing, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis says Russian hackers gained access to voter databases in two Florida counties ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

DeSantis said Tuesday the hackers didn’t manipulate any data and the election results weren’t compromised.

The governor said he signed an agreement with the FBI not to disclose the names of the counties, but elections officials in those counties are aware of the intrusions.

And this has journos demanding an apology from the Washington Post’s fact checker who gave Sen. Bill Nelson 4 Pinnochios for claiming that this behavior was continuing in 2018 and that he had seen “classified” intel to back it up:

When Bill Nelson stated this, the Washington Post gave him Four Pinocchios https://t.co/I6GLij2Een https://t.co/DlEQqSZbe8

— Timothy Burke (@bubbaprog) May 14, 2019

Remember – ex-Sen Bill Nelson D-FL took a lot of flak from GOP during the 2018 campaign for saying that this happened https://t.co/bhhf3DFjH1

— Jamie Dupree (@jamiedupree) May 14, 2019

He was “hosed,” even:

Bill Nelson got hosed pic.twitter.com/NJ724khiOL

— Sam Stein (@samstein) May 14, 2019

Glenn Kessler defended his 4 Pinnochios fact check, saying it was about Nelson’s statements on the 2018 election and not the 2016 election, which we already knew about before today:

Nope. Read the fact check. Nelson was talking about 2018, not 2016. That is what he was fact checked on — that the Russians had access in 2018, on top of what they tried in 2016. DeSantis is referring to 2016, not 2018. https://t.co/bxDpv5lbLy

— Glenn Kessler (@GlennKesslerWP) May 14, 2019

They don’t care:

No, he didn't. Nelson claimed the Russians were in the systems in 2018. No evidence has ever emerged to prove that. People kept mixing up 2016 and 2018. There's been little debate about 2016. https://t.co/6K4bWppFmb

— Glenn Kessler (@GlennKesslerWP) May 14, 2019

We should note that one of the statement Kessler based his 4 Pinnochios ruling on is the “Russians ‘are’ in our voting systems”:

Let's clarify: Nelson said two things & refused to clarify. Nelson said @ least once that Russians "are" in our voting systems (present tense; likely not true but do we believe the FBI now?) & other times Nelson said "have penetrated" (past tense; true)https://t.co/EFKIVmFVG6

— Marc Caputo (@MarcACaputo) May 14, 2019

So, Nelson was still wrong:

Going to be some really bad Bill Nelson takes today.

But even if DeSantis wasn't talking about 2016 (he was, not 2018), there is still no real evidence Bill Nelson knew anything specific. https://t.co/Y9tjStmsXz

‘She smeared herself!’ Nancy Pelosi tries to shame Republicans into apologizing for their ‘smear’ of Rashida Tlaib

Mon, 05/13/2019 - 20:01

As Twitchy told you, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer had the gall to demand that Republicans apologize to Rashida Tlaib for calling her out over her despicable and historically illiterate remarks about the Holocaust and Israel. Not to be outdone, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is doing the same:

Republicans’ desperate attempts to smear @RepRashida & misrepresent her comments are outrageous. President @realDonaldTrump & House GOP should apologize to Rep. Tlaib & the American people for their gross misrepresentations.

Mon, 05/13/2019 - 19:45

You won’t hear us praising CNN for much these days, but today, they did something right. While the Washington Post tripped all over themselves to defend Rashida Tlaib’s shameful, historically illiterate remarks about the Holocaust and Israel, CNN’s John King led a discussion about Tlaib’s shameful revisionism:

AOC makes SURPRISING ADMISSION about the economy under President Trump

Mon, 05/13/2019 - 13:02

We just noticed something in the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez thread we told you about on Saturday where she said her soak-the-rich plan will only affect “like 10 people.” Check out the really nice thing she said about the economy under President Trump!

US GDP is at an all-time high. As a nation, we are more prosperous than we ever have been.

But that’s simply not the lived truth. Even now, I’m paid similar to a doctor or corporate lawyer – many who‘d think they are “rich,” but it’s nowhere near what we actually mean in policy.

— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) May 11, 2019

Hey Ronna McDaniel, please add AOC’s quote to this:

Republicans and @realDonaldTrump are delivering for Americans:

*6M new jobs

*Unemployment at 3.6%, the lowest since 1969.

Meanwhile, Democrats are fantasizing over baseless impeachment, government-run health care, and the socialist Green New Deal.

Here’s how many moms in America woke up this morning to greet their baby girls named ‘Khaleesi’ (Hint: It’s hundreds!)

Mon, 05/13/2019 - 12:10

By now you’ve seen or heard that Daenerys Targaryen, also known by her Dothraki title of Khaleesi, went full Mad Queen on HBO’s “Game of Thrones” last night and burned King’s Landing after the city surrendered to her troops:

Tfw the enemy army has surrendered but you decide to use your dragon to conduct airstrikes on civilian targets pic.twitter.com/uJ20FhdJjh

It got pretty bad:

ENJOY pic.twitter.com/htRNLeA24I

— Comfortably Smug (@ComfortablySmug) May 13, 2019

It’s going to be a rough morning for some people:

I am disgusted by Daenery's actions in Season 8 Ep. 5 of @GameOfThrones yesterday. She and Drogon burnt to death thousands of innocent people at Kings Landing. I spent the last ten years loving her and hoping she will end up on the Iron Throne. I despise her now. #GameofThrones

— Femi Fani-Kayode (@realFFK) May 13, 2019

And for hundreds of others, a lifetime of mockery awaits:

lmao at all the stupid millennials who named their kids Khaleesi

— Alex Griswold (@HashtagGriswold) May 13, 2019

Is it so wrong to laugh?

Thinking about my Facebook friend who named her daughter Khaleesi a few years ago.

— Ruth Graham (@publicroad) May 13, 2019

According to the Social Security Administration, 560 baby girls born in 2018 were named Khaleesi:

Game of Thrones baby names are more popular than ever. Here are some numbers from kids born in 2018:

Khaleesi: 560
Tyrion: 58
Brienne: 33
Jorah: 30
Sansa: 29
Ramsay: 15
Theon: 14
Khal: 9
Daenarys: 8
Benjen: 6

See the full list: https://t.co/T8HskAfeP7

— NBC News (@NBCNews) May 12, 2019

And this doesn’t even include misspellings of Khaleesi. From NBC News:

The 560 baby girls born last year named Khaleesi might want to be thankful they were not one of the 19 named Caleesi, or the five named Khaleesie (“yes, Khaleesi but with an ‘e’ at the end”).

Whoops:

Cry us a MILLION rivers! Rashida Tlaib claims people with ‘racist, hateful agenda’ are trying to silence her and GRRL PLEASE

Mon, 05/13/2019 - 12:03

Seems Rep. Rashida Tlaib wants to give Ilhan Omar a run for her money when it comes to who can say the dumbest, most anti-Semitic things in this junior class of House Representatives. Tlaib claimed Palestinians tried to create a ‘safe haven’ for Jews who survived the Holocaust and that this ‘fact’ gave her a calming feeling.

You never, ever want to claim anything about or around the Holocaust gives you a ‘calming feeling.’

Holy wow.

Welp, instead of apologizing for her comments, Tlaib was quick to play the victim card and claimed people who were ‘trying to silence her’ were doing so to push their racist, hateful agenda. Hey, don’t look at us, we just work here.

Policing my words, twisting & turning them to ignite vile attacks on me will not work. All of you who are trying to silence me will fail miserably. I will never allow you to take my words out of context to push your racist and hateful agenda. The truth will always win.

— Rashida Tlaib (@RashidaTlaib) May 13, 2019

Policing her words? Alrighty then.

If the truth ‘will always win,’ Tlaib should go ahead and resign considering her own father has accused her of lying about her residence to win an election.

No one is silencing you. We are just NOT going to sit by as you deny the Holocaust and revise history. Never again. Am Yisrael Chai

— Jake Fradkin (@jsftennis) May 13, 2019

But you know, she’s the victim here.

Your deflection drips with desperation.

— Whatevs (@danobrien1972) May 13, 2019

If only people would stop holding her accountable for the anti-Semitic things she says!

Nobody has to take your words “out of context.” Their hatefulness and vileness stand on their own. You and @IlhanMN are the poster girls for anti-semitism.

Liz Cheney calls on Nancy Pelosi to act after new Holocaust comments from Rashida Tlaib; WaPost gives it the ‘Republicans seize’ treatment

Mon, 05/13/2019 - 03:48

Rep. Rashida Tlaib was on the Yahoo News “Skulduggery” podcast where she claimed that Palestinians tried “to create a safe haven for Jews” who had survived the Holocaust and this gives her a “calming feeling”:

Wow, this is breathtakingly vile from Rashida Tlaib.https://t.co/fiamTC9jam pic.twitter.com/a4NLNfP8Oz

— Dr. Petra Marquardt-Bigman (@WarpedMirrorPMB) May 11, 2019

Just when you think they can’t get more anti-Semitic, they get more anti-Semitic:

My goodness, this is horrifying. From a member of Congress. In 2019. While we were all marveling at the antisemitic depths to which Ilhan Omar will sink, Rashida Tlaib swings for the fences. https://t.co/ybrV4tEhvM

— Seth Mandel (@SethAMandel) May 12, 2019

It also ignores what was happening in Palestine before, during and right after WWII:

That‘s why they massacred Jews during the Holocaust and started a revolt against the British to prevent Jews from entering, and why their leader told Hitler kill Jews, don’t send them here. To provide a safe haven. Makes perfect sense ⁦@RashidaTlaibhttps://t.co/ohA43vcz2c

— Lahav Harkov (@LahavHarkov) May 12, 2019

More on her historically illiterate take from the Boston Globe’s Jeff Jacoby. Take note of the embrace of Nazism and Hitler:

No, @RashidaTlaib, Palestinian Arabs did not provide "save haven" for Jews. They assaulted & murdered Jews, urged on by their leader, Haj Amin al-Husseini, an admirer and ally of Adolf Hitler.https://t.co/cXhMFpv6b6

— Jeff Jacoby (@Jeff_Jacoby) May 12, 2019

In 1929, Palestinian Arabs broke into the yeshiva in Hebron, murdering every student they found there. Then they lynched Jews in the streets. When the town's rabbi tried to shelter frightened Jews in his home, the Arab mob attacked and killed him and his family. pic.twitter.com/QPLLfGeqcW

— Jeff Jacoby (@Jeff_Jacoby) May 12, 2019

A week after the Hebron massacre, Arabs in Safed launched a new pogrom. There was "a systematic slaughter of the Jews," wrote a British eyewitness. "The inhumanity of the attack was beyond conception. Women were gashed in the chest, babies were cut [and] old people were killed." pic.twitter.com/cKtIT26VoX

— Jeff Jacoby (@Jeff_Jacoby) May 12, 2019

In 1938, the French journal Marianne reported that Arabs in Palestine were enthusiastically pro-Nazi: “At Nablus, the Arab population [gives] shouts of ‘Heil Hitler’.… the Arab journals Falastin & Al Difa’a … reproduce large portraits of various leaders of the Third Reich."

— Jeff Jacoby (@Jeff_Jacoby) May 12, 2019

The @NYTimes reported on another massacre in 1938, this time in Tiberias: "Not since the riots of 1929 … has there been in Palestine such a slaughter." It described how Arabs torched the synagogue and murdered its sexton, then went from house to house, killing and burning. pic.twitter.com/6r4eZKLB0W

— Jeff Jacoby (@Jeff_Jacoby) May 12, 2019

Most notorious was the Palestinian Arab leader Husseini, who met w/ Hitler in Berlin and traveled to Bosnia to recruit volunteers for the Waffen SS. "The Arabs were Germany's natural friends," Husseini told the führer, "because they had the same enemies" – especially Jews. pic.twitter.com/3LqMiW8bAO

— Jeff Jacoby (@Jeff_Jacoby) May 12, 2019

"Our fundamental condition for cooperating with Germany," Husseini wrote, "was a free hand to eradicate every last Jew from Palestine & the Arab world." Again & again he insisted that Jewish refugees be barred from Palestine.

"Safe haven," @RashidaTlaib? Truly, you're shameless.

— Jeff Jacoby (@Jeff_Jacoby) May 12, 2019

Rep. Liz Cheney thinks it’s time Nancy Pelosi finally do something about the “vile anti-Semitism in their ranks”:

Surely now @SpeakerPelosi⁩ & ⁦@LeaderHoyer⁩ will finally take action against vile anti-Semitism in their ranks. This must cross the line, even for them. Rashida Tlaib says thinking of the Holocaust provides her a “calming feeling” https://t.co/opUUNEol2d

— Liz Cheney (@Liz_Cheney) May 12, 2019

But to the Washington Post, this was a “Republicans seize” moment. Literally:

— Julio Rosas (@Julio_Rosas11) May 13, 2019

Except we’re not taking the remarks out of context:

It's even worse. @feliciasonmez actually spends the article defending Tlaib and claiming Republicans were taking her comments out of context.

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) calls on America to ‘start investing in our people,’ like China does

Mon, 05/13/2019 - 03:26

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) seems pretty smitten with China as evidenced by this tweet where he calls on America to “start investing in our people” in order to build more “high-speed rail, broadband, renewables and universities”:

China hasn’t been in a war since 1979 and invests in high-speed rail, broadband, renewables and universities.

America has only been at peace for 16 years of our history and spend trillions on overseas wars.

To lead in the 21st century, we have to start investing in our people.

— Ro Khanna (@RoKhanna) May 11, 2019

And this could be one of the worst tweets we’ve read from a congressman this year:

This is a bad tweet. https://t.co/morbvkVwwq

— Sean T at RCP (@SeanTrende) May 13, 2019

Does Rep. Khanna count “re-education” camps as universities?

China also invests in “re-education” camps. https://t.co/w0sLWmOT79

— Nahal Toosi (@nahaltoosi) May 12, 2019

And what about the Uyghurs that China put in concentration camps:

In the last few years China has put a million of its own people in internment camps for being Muslim. How does a sitting congressman tweet this with a straight face? Plenty of ways to make this point without being an idiot. https://t.co/7h5KQzSbw6

— Danny Gold (@DGisSERIOUS) May 12, 2019

Like FDR, Rep. Khanna is pro-internment camp:

Endorsing ethnic internment camps is very on brand for you guys. https://t.co/H8l6Oc8ZYk

— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) May 13, 2019

It’s an “investment in people”:

But, they put millions of Muslims into concentration camps, and @RoKhanna probably considers that 'investment in people'. https://t.co/uokaXd0Y2C

— Pradheep J. Shanker (@Neoavatara) May 13, 2019

THIS is what Rep. Khanna is endorsing, via CNN: “Former Xinjiang teacher claims brainwashing and abuse inside mass detention centers”:

Sounds terrific. https://t.co/qspwUPEAC8

— Charles C. W. Cooke (@charlescwcooke) May 12, 2019

And if the camps aren’t a problem for Rep. Khanna, China’s development hasn’t really been people friendly:

Now, to the China worship…

The people of China make no decisions regarding the below. They are told what will happen.

Tens of millions have been forcibly relocated from their homes to be used as the government wants.

This is "investing in your people?" https://t.co/zpNKjGjaLa

— Crotchety Old Nathan Wurtzel (@NathanWurtzel) May 13, 2019

And maybe he wants America to start stealing technology from other countries, too?

Finally, a good part of China's prosperity is via industrial theft from us and Europe.

But I forgive you, because it's not like you're a Member of Congress with access to this information. https://t.co/zpNKjGjaLa

— Crotchety Old Nathan Wurtzel (@NathanWurtzel) May 13, 2019

Let’s add China’s one-child policy and the Tiananmen Square massacre to the list:

The question here is if @RoKhanna is just trying to be deliberately provocative, or does he seriously wish to morally compare China w/ its one-child policy, Tiananmen Square massacre, & current internment of Uyghur Muslims with the US which saved the world in two world wars? https://t.co/xaAy03YBHE

How Sunday’s ‘Game of Thrones’ is like the Democratic primary in one glorious tweet

Mon, 05/13/2019 - 02:55

It seems that Daenerys Targaryen’s transformation into the Mad Queen and her burning of Kings Landing on Sunday’s “Game of Thrones” is not sitting well some female blue-check. Here are some of the dragon-fire hot takes we’ve seen:

So the woman is a pure savior until she’s a stone’s throw away from power – then she goes mad with ambition? The only way the writers could have made this more sexist is if Dany was on her period.

— Jessica Valenti (@JessicaValenti) May 13, 2019

In the books, as many have said, Dany is much more liable to make bad choices — she's a stand-in for George W. Bush destroying the Middle East! That's not the Dany this show created.

— Kate Aurthur (@KateAurthur) May 13, 2019

I'm still trying to process that we have moved from the women being badasses to the women either going mad or becoming weepy messes. Because THAT IS NOT OK in the year of our lord two thousand nineteen.

— Christina Reynolds (@creynoldsnc) May 13, 2019

Remember why Dany locked her dragons up for an entire season because she didn’t want another small child to die?

WHAT. WAS. THAT.#GameofThrones

— Alex Bruce-Smith (@alexbrucesmith) May 13, 2019

why did the writers do that woof

— Molly Knight (@molly_knight) May 13, 2019

Daenerys' turn to the Mad Queen would've worked a lot better for me if the writers had teased it from the beginning (or even a few seasons ago!), not suddenly introduced it in the last two episodes to give the show a big shocking final turn. #GameOfThrones

— Caitlin PenzeyMoog (@PenzeyMoog) May 13, 2019

‘Terrifying’: Twitter locked the account of a researcher over his scientifically accurate tweet on transsexualism and gender dysphoria

Mon, 05/13/2019 - 01:02

Terrifying.

— Bridget Phetasy (@BridgetPhetasy) May 12, 2019

Twitter locked the account of Ray Blanchard, a Ph.D. “world expert” researcher in “sexual orientation, paraphilias, & gender identity disorders” over this tweet where he wrote that “Transsexualism and milder forms of gender dysphoria are types of mental disorder”:

Ray Blanchard served on the gender dysphoria working group and chaired the paraphilia working group for DSM V. He is a world expert in the field. Twitter has just suspended his account for a thread setting out his findings from
A lifetime of research. Unreal pic.twitter.com/vgQCd4OzYs

— Helen Joyce (@HJJoyceEcon) May 12, 2019

In other words, Twitter locked him out of his account for being accurate:

1/ Gender dysphoria is in the DSM-5. Despite endless rumor-mongering and misinformation to the contrary, it *is* considered a mental disorder. Maybe it shouldn't be! But it's beyond insane to suspend someone for expressing an opinion which lines up with the DSM. I have less and pic.twitter.com/nKkI401FIK

— Jesse Singal (@jessesingal) May 12, 2019

From journo Jesse Singal, “Twitter is making a terrible and embarrassing error here that it should fix”:

2/ less faith that, as a journalist who often writes about science, I will be able to continue using Twitter without getting punished for communicating scientifiically accurate infromation. Twitter is making a terrible and embarrassing error here that it should fix.

— Jesse Singal (@jessesingal) May 12, 2019

It’s a problem when the science isn’t woke enough:

3/ Anyway, this is part of a larger problem of a complete meltdown, in elite progressive spaces, of the ability to accurately convey science on stories having to do with social justice. Journalism, academia, social media — same story everywhere. It's a slow-motion disaster.

— Jesse Singal (@jessesingal) May 12, 2019

But people are arguing that Blanchard should be censored over it (!!!):

I'm amazed that there are people arguing @BlanchardPhD's tweet should have been censored because is it not in line with current WPATH guidance. (a) Why does that mean it should be censored? (b) Many of us think WPATH's approach is horrendously misguided https://t.co/OGri6kO2RS

— Helen Joyce (@HJJoyceEcon) May 12, 2019

It does look like Twitter realized its error and he’s back now:

He’s back now – deleted the offending tweet – which accurately stated that gender dysphoria is a disorder in the DSM. too insane for words

— Helen Joyce (@HJJoyceEcon) May 12, 2019

And he’s reposted the thread for everyone to read again:

Earlier today I wrote this thread in response to a follower who asked me, “What is your actual position on transgender people?” It looks like my reply has not been delivered to a single person besides the original inquirer, so I am reposting it here.

— Ray Blanchard (@BlanchardPhD) May 11, 2019

My beliefs include the following 6 elements: (1) Transsexualism and milder forms of gender dysphoria are types of mental disorder, which may leave the individual with average or even above-average functioning in unrelated areas of life.

— Ray Blanchard (@BlanchardPhD) May 11, 2019

(2) Sex change surgery is still the best treatment for carefully screened, adult patients, whose gender dysphoria has proven resistant to other forms of treatment.

— Ray Blanchard (@BlanchardPhD) May 11, 2019

(3) Sex change surgery should not be considered for any patient until that patient has reached the age of 21 years and has lived for at least two years in the desired gender role.

— Ray Blanchard (@BlanchardPhD) May 11, 2019

(4) Gender dysphoria is not a sexual orientation, but it is virtually always preceded or accompanied by an atypical sexual orientation – in males, either homosexuality (sexual arousal by members of one’s own biological sex) . . .

— Ray Blanchard (@BlanchardPhD) May 11, 2019

or autogynephilia (sexual arousal at the thought or image of oneself as a female).

— Ray Blanchard (@BlanchardPhD) May 11, 2019

(5) There are two main types of gender dysphoria in males, one associated with homosexuality and one associated with autogynephilia. Traditionally, the great bulk of female-to-male transsexuals has been homosexual in erotic object choice.

— Ray Blanchard (@BlanchardPhD) May 11, 2019

(6) The sex of a postoperative transsexual should be analogous to a legal fiction. This legal fiction would apply to some things (e.g., sex designation on a driver’s license) but not to others (entering a sports competition as one’s adopted sex).

— Ray Blanchard (@BlanchardPhD) May 11, 2019

Trump was right again? NY Mag warns of the dangers of automation in passenger airlines

Sat, 05/11/2019 - 00:13

Remember when blue-checks mocked President Trump for this take on the crashed 737 Max jet in Africa?

Airplanes are becoming far too complex to fly. Pilots are no longer needed, but rather computer scientists from MIT. I see it all the time in many products. Always seeking to go one unnecessary step further, when often old and simpler is far better. Split second decisions are….

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 12, 2019

Well, NY Mag’s “Intelligencer” just tweeted the same thought:

These crashes illustrate the dangers of poorly integrating human and automatic control, a problem that will only worsen as automation becomes more ubiquitous. @manvbrain writes https://t.co/sXEhQF6irL

— Intelligencer (@intelligencer) May 10, 2019

From the article:

While the plane was not a Boeing and did not involve a control system like the one implicated in the recent crashes of Lionair Flight 610 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302, the overall circumstances eerily echo the conditions that led to the loss of the two 737 Max jets. In all three cases, pilots suffered a dangerous and unexpected emergency during takeoff, lost the automation that they were used to relying on, and lacked the necessary skills to adequately handle the ensuing crisis. As such, these crashes illustrate the dangers of poorly integrating human and automatic control, a problem that will only worsen as automation becomes more ubiquitous.

In other words, Trump was right? Again? Time for some apologies, guys:

You fly on the MOST technologically advanced passenger airplane in the world – Air Force One. Take a moment to meet the men and women who fly it. I have. They are not MIT scientists, but brave, amazing PILOTS of the USAF. Don't disparage what they do; honor their service. https://t.co/pH4z46UG7X

Yeah, what we really need is the "planes are too technological and stuff" guy figuring this all out via one minute & fifteen sec convos with the Boieng CEO in between KFC wings… https://t.co/N9sP2fBklT

The US President believes modern planes rely too much on automation – is he right? We take a closer look at the new high-tech Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft involved in the fatal crash in Ethiopia over the weekend tonight on #abc730 https://t.co/dlScPkOIrr

And on and on and on.
